I just received my Trainz 2009 World Builder Edtion in the mail today and was wondering if I need any special intructions to install the game on Vista like with TRS2006, Is there any service packs I need to download and install also.

Look at Sticky threads and the FAQ section of the TS2009 area here, has a lot of what you ask for.
Check Sticky started by Ashan in TS2009 area, has links to information.
Do NOT install in the same folder as other Trainz.

I hope I'm not too late...

 Hello BT,

Right click on the Installer & select "Run As Administrator."

When the Install Wizard appears shorten the file path.

It will say C:/Program Files/Auran/TS2009.

Shorten the path to C:/TS2009.

Are you running UAC in Vista? If you have a good Internet Security software you don't need UAC.

Run the program, but don't spend a lot of time.

Exit the program & download SP1. Right click on the pack & select Run as Admin.

This will allow the TS2009 to run & access folders without constantly seeking permissions from Vista.

If you wish to transfer files from TRS2006, open CMP & select the "Installed" tab.

Select a group of files by holding the Ctrl key & dragging the cursor over these files. You can also temporarily alter the columns down to name & kuid & use the space to the right to left-click & drag to select files.

Hold Ctrl+E keys to open for editing.

In TS2009 Content Manager v2.0 select File/Import Content then find your TRS2006 Editing Folder & select the entire folder.

After CM2 is finished go back to CMP & hold Ctrl+M keys to commit the content.

Repeat this until you import all content into CMP.

You'll get a lot of error flags because not all dependencies will be loaded until you finish.

You can open Windows Explorer to find the TRS2006 Editing Folder to view progress whilst Opening/Committing Files.

If CMP freezes open Windows Task Manager to Processes & see if Content Manager Plus shows an amount in the CPU column...if you see any number above zero CMP is working & will refresh itself when finished with the assigned task.

I transferred my TRS2006 files to the C:/TRS2006 location & everything worked better than ever before.

Be sure to read instructions about TS2009, tutorials, etc. Don't pay much attention to complaint threads because they may not be relevant to your experience.

Post any problems you have.

try this method it works on trs 04 and trs 06 and tc3

1. launch msconfig from the run menu.

2. click on tools tab, scroll till you find the disable UAC, click on the line.

3. press the launch button.

4. a cmd window will open, when the command is done, you can close the window.

5. close msconfig, now you need to reboot pc for the changes to rpley.

i tryed this method on tc3, and trs 04 so it should work on trs06

if eny of you don't know what the UAC means, it means user account control.

hope this helps

regards jay:)

...more to the story...

Are you running UAC in Vista? If you have a good Internet Security software you don't need UAC.

Vista File Permissions & especially User Accounts Control(UAC) were implemented as a last ditch effort to prevent the unauthorized opening of virus, spy-ware, malware, etc. files by taking extra measures to alert the User as to what specifically they are about to do & the risks involved...

Just entering URL's into the Firewall Security Allowed Websites does not allow programs to access or especially alter their own files.

WindowsXP was also this way although the threat was not taken seriously so Vista closed some of the simple loopholes that allowed Users to screw-up their computer.

By-pass the Program Files & an Auran Folder & you drop the need for Program Access at two locations...C:/TS2009 installed by "Run As Administrator" Permissions sets the Security on all files in the Folder...or else as you see on the Auran Forums all the problems generated by CMP/CM2, CCP, etc.

I do not & since I moved TRS2006 out of the C:/Program Files/Auran Folder to a New Folder path C:/TRS2006(I created the TRS2006 Folder then systematically moved all sub-folders & files there), I have had no problems opening the Legacy program or CMP, however CMP sometimes rebuilds the TAD & appears to lock up...but Windows Task Manager has revealed that CMP is still functions & after it finishes refreshes itself for a new task.

Auran has not supported this path however I learned it from an Auran Moderator.

I always suggest a top shelf Internet Security should be used(mine is Norton 360, Kaspersky is also very effective). This prevents malware, spy-ware, etc from coming through the firewall in Trainz files.
  • Run As Admin on both the TS2009 Installer as well as SP1
  • Shortened File Path
  • Opening Local Content for Editing in Content Manager Plus & Import using Content Manager v2.0
These are three very important steps to prevent crashes, lock-ups, problems some associate with the simulator & allow concentration on more important issues with updates, identifying bugs, etc.

You will no longer have to deal with a permission box to open the Trainz Launcher or wait whilst CM2 rebuilds the TAD.

Content Creator Plus opens & closes quickly.
