Trainz 2009 New Features

I followed one of the threads in the 2009 developers forum and picked up that Andi06 seems to be busy developing his animated junctions for 2009 - and seemingly they will come ready wired! no need to use invisible track.

In regards to TEE...

TEE will include a simplified Content Manager and will not include the Surveyor or Content Creator modules. With the new Trainz Online module, users will be able to discover and download new freeware and/or payware content. There will be a new interface which will allow users to set their "Driver Session Parameters" and also for trains to be placed on the tracks from within Driver.

It appears as though it'll be just like TRS2006 Driver's Edition, but with the added ability to download new routes.

Also, it looks like the "full" TRS2009 will only be available online, with TEE being the only edition of Trainz available in retail stores. Does this ring a bell with any other long-time forumers? (Think waaaaaay back to Greg Lane's Future of Trainz thread...)

Good news (with the caveat about clarifying what's in each edition) but not wishing to rain on any parades... I'm sure most people have looked at the Trainz Dev site and what they're proposing timescale wise (Xmas 2008) doesn't quite tally with the community creating all this wonderful new detailed content/routes from scratch? Unless, of course, Auran have a very big Ace already up their sleeve and are planning to surprise us with stuff they've already made.

They have made it quite clear they are not interested in contributions made in TRS2006 (or earlier) even down to the fact that the existing track is below standard for what they are expecting 009 to offer.

A very tall order indeed to get it done-Beta-Test-Gold-Release in just under 5 months.

Edit:
One more thought -still doesn't look as though we'e getting i. An AI signaller/despatcher; 2. Timetable operation or 3. A career mode.

All of which I would place higher than extra on-line features.

Purely IMHO, of course.

Can you help me out a bit, but with the extra terrain features, doe's this mean water can be manipulated into streams, rivers, oceans, ditches, and water fall's? Im just not clear on the water things. And I am sorry if I spelt something wrong, which I alway's do.:D
Take it easy

A lot of doom and gloom by the sound of it, personally I don't think its as bad as it seems, True TRS06 content does not seem to be wanted how ever one does not have to start from scratch !!!. I will be updating my 06 stuff by adding 1 perhaps 2 more LOD layers above what I have now ( I've always wanted to add more detail) and redoo the textures on the existing .im's . I sure as hell ain't gonna start again thats really dumb.

Really 2 versions is not such a bad idea, 8 weeks there isn't going to be to much content for a full version, so the Content creator version will basically just be that bare bones, for me its perfect I have all my own stuff. Also all the 04 and 06 will be compatible with it. However I must say that 17 weeks to get a decent amount of content is tight and will be interesting to see if it happens.

$29.99 or some thing has been mention really that is so cheap I suggest the whingers here get real, go buy a model train and see what it costs ya I'd gladly pay double that for both versions for the enjoyment I getout of it. Its cheap. STOP WHINGING

Another thing I saw mentioned was it not being compatable with 04 06 content, well it will be but what has been said by Windwalker himself is that the old 04 and 06 content will look out of place beside the new stuff and you won't want to use it. So you die hards still wanting to stay with 04 will be like the dinosaurs you will to go extincted

Chill out its just my opinion

Cheers

They apparently improved the sound engine in TC3.

We did, yes. There were some low level improvements, e.g. to address the 'cutting left and right' bug that TRS2006 introduced, a whole slew of rebalancing - priorities, volumes and distances - and also the new steam sound system tied to RPM rather than speed, which means creators don't need to make new sounds for each loco with different size drivers.

TRS2009 only as download = fail

That would be a whole plethora of customers lost. Including myself.

Overall, looks a nice step forward ...

Gangsta.

Download only...I didn't spot that bit. Think that pretty much rules we out too.

Can we start the "TRS2006 Hold-Outs" thread now, please!

Update to above...quote from Tony indicates download or DVD:-
To deliver TS2009 into everyone's hands as soon as possible so they can start upgrading their routes with new content, it will only be available to order online in either Digital Download or DVD versions. We are aiming for a November 2008 release to allow time for delivery prior to Christmas (expected price $29.99).

It appears Auran is working on making some enhancements to the underlying code for animated junctions, but at a high level, they will still be fixed track pieces that need to be placed separately (same as in TRS06). 'Automagic' animated junctions are a potential feature for TSX.

Thank's for the information, placing separately isn't such a bad thing if the overall appearance has improved.

This is great news,I'm using Andi06 junctions now, well trying to,LH/RH/Y junctions are pretty easy to wire, its those damn slips I can't fathom out,if they come pre-wired,that would be great.

Christmas 2008! :)

Two different editions Trainz Simulator 2009: World Builder Edition (TS2009) and Trainz Simulator 2009: Engineers Edition (TEE) :(.

This sounds as though two purchases may be required for the full experience, not so good. This requires further explanation I think.

In a word... Economics

Why is so many people against the "download version"? It beats running to stores or waiting for UPS to get here. Just curious.

Not having read much about the 2009 editions (but just recieved the news mail about them). I'm assuming (hoping really), that the sounds will be fixed so they will work as they did waaayyyy back in TRS04.

Also a couple of questions....Will the baseboard size still remain at 720Mtrs.

Will we be able to raise or lower overall layout heights (for merging).

Will the default compass position still be facing East.

Will we be able to remove large sections of baseboards without TRS crashing with a fatal error.

Will we be able to rotate sections of terrain in small increments.

Will we (again), move to a different system of data manipulation (T.O, CMP).

Will we have to wait 1/2 a year for the 1st patch.

I'm all for supporting Auran, but i don't think i will be purchasing 2 seperate editions.

Regards Barryg

I don't think 30 bucks is a lot of money considering what you get. I'd buy it in a heartbeat, just for the improvements to Surveyor.
I am a little worried though, about the compatibility of the route I'm presently putting a lot of work into (TRS2006). I really don't fancy to have to start fixing a huge pile of assets to run it in 2009. That's the issue I'm having with a lot of 2004-stuff I want' to use in 2006.

Hmm $30.00, is that each or both ;) Considering that i use both types (build and drive), then $30.00 is very good :o

I just noticed that a new improved CMP will be used. As you say the error checking may prove to be a big issue in regards to compatability.

Now there is a fond memory from the old forum.:Y:

Anyhow, TRS2009 seems interesting to me and since some effort has been made to give route builders new tools I will probably buy it....after it passes the critiques of our resident critics...you guys know you are a tough bunch.:hehe:

Because some of us find great difficulty in getting clean broadband downloads of large files. Perhaps when we all have noise free fibre optic connections all will be well, but I for one, fall into that category and still have some desirable large downloads that I cannot get error free.

Ok, didn't realize that. That's a good point. I guess it's rather nice to have an "original CD" as well.

Most downloads come with a "jacket" that requires you to find the credit card number (or similar) you used to pay for it (the LDS 767 for Flight Sim), not much use if you need to reinstall 18 months later and you used a debit card on which the number changes. Others only allow so many installs before you have to pay for a new licence (I believe the IOW route from RSDL for Rail Simulator enforces this option).

Here in the UK, Broadband ISP's still have fairly strict monthly bandwidth limits - my BT contract is 10Gb a month but it's surprising how easy it is to go over that (at 60p a gig) without even trying, let alone downloading the monster 9 or 10 gig installer TRS2009 is likely to be.

So I'll settle for my DVD version every time, please.
