Thinking of upgrading from XP to Windows 7. I run TSR2006 happily on XP and won't, if changing causes problems. Advice please?

Thanks
Jules

I have/had computers with Vista and 7 and I could not get Trainz 06 to run well on either. The one time I got it to run with 7 it was so slow and jerky I dumped it and went to Trainz 09.

hi, jules,
I believe TRS2006 will run ok with Windows 7 32bit, TRS2006 ran fairly well on my old system using XP Proffesional. As Auran advised no more support for TRS2004 and TRS2006 i decided to buy a new system that used Windows 7 i chose to have 64bit instead of 32 bit. TRS2006 would not run on the new system. I then reluctantly installed TRS2009 and was absolutely amazed at the difference.
100% spot on, irespective of what the critics say.
Hope this info is of some use to you.

Trainz 2006 ok on windows 7 ?

Cascaderailroad, just got windows 7 but i get (Lancher.exe-Entry point not found)The procedure entry point(?getFormatld@TextureResource@jet@@UBA?AW4DFformatid@2@XZ could not be located in the dynamic link library ReederSystem_7c.dll.)when i try to lanech 06. After installing TRS2006,with antivirises off and disconnected from internet, running update just after installing TRS2006.
Anybody that knows why i'm getting this i would appreate you letting me know how to fix this.
Thank

I have installed TRS2006 Trainz Railways Build 3337, on 2 Vista OS PC's, and on one Windows7 OS PC.

I turn the antivurus off, disable the firewall, turn off the UAC (and keep it off permanently), say yes to everything trainz wants (ie: install DirectX, and NetWhatEverItIs) yes yes yes to every notice that pops up .... and it installs fine. You must be conncted to the internet, during installization, while your AV and firewall are disabled.

I have Norton AV and I make 4 Allowable Exceptions Program rules for: TC.exe, TRS2006.exe, TC-CMP, TRS2006 CMP

I set my AV scans to exclude scanning of Auran/TRS2006/bin/local

Your bin file is where you should be launching from.

How full does your PC Disk show is still free, before, and after install ?

I just love TRS2006, (MSTS2 broke my heart), and I am chompin' at the bit for 09/10, or the next build.

With Win7 you have to install as administrator and run as administrator otherwise nothing works properly, there is a thread on here somewhere about how to install 2006 on Win7 properly. Thats right click on Trainz Launcher > properties > compatibilty > run as administrator. Running on an admin account is not sufficient with Win7, blame Microsoft.

You also need to install directX 9c latest version as Directx 10 and 11 are not backwards compatible.

DirectX9c will exist alongside 10 and 11.

Also update your graphics drivers to the latest from the manufacturer as the Win7 supplied ones do not have OpenGL.

Need to do this whatever version of Trainz you are running.

I've tried several times to intall TRS2006 with Win7 64 bit
with no success.

It fails every time with a Netframework 1.1 error.

Netframework 1.1 will not as per Microsoft work with
Win7. Something about compatability problems without
explaination.

Intalling DirectX9c is also a bit of a problem, although
it would seem that installed. I can't verify that it did
since TRS2006 hasn't successfully ran on my machine.

TRS2010 run flawlessly. Smooth as silk.

Now if I could get the 06 version to run, I'd be a happy camper.

Am seriously thinking of a second machine with Kavoom and XP.

Any thoughts?

Man, people like me who grew up with earlier versions of trainz like TRS2004 and TRS2006 are really having a hard time, I know I am. Just leaving all of your old stuff behind for a new game that doesn't have much out for it yet, really scares me. Cascaderailroad, were you using Windows 7 32-bit or 64-bit? Man I really hope you can run TRS2006 on 64-bit, I'm getting the upgrade soon...

Thanks,
