Trainz 2006 Crashing on startup.

Hi all! I have decide to return back to the trainz environment once again! Well when I tried to play the game that was already installed on my computer, it simply freezes at the tip screen where the little gear is at the bottom of the screen and it is suppose to be spinning...:'(

Can this I fix this?

What kind of computer do you have? It's helpful if you can tell us what kind of hardware you have and what operating system (which version of Windows).

Does that happen when loading up a pre-existing route, or a new one in Surveyor? Does this only happen in Driver or Surveyor?

Have you installed the latest service packs for TRS2006? I think It's SP1.

You might want to delete the Asset.tdx file and let Trainz rebuild it. This can take awhile so plan on doing this when you can be away from the computer. When I've done this, it's usually when I plan on doing something else like napping or practicing the piano.

When the rebuild is done, Trainz should load fine if this is the problem.

I have a duo core compaq presario f500 with 2gb ram, 1.7ghz processor with windows vista sp2 32 bit. Im running trainz 2006. I just reinstalled it again and It will keep on saying applying filter and it never spans out of this mode until it crashes trainz.
Can this be fixed?

While you probably know this you need to install the 2006 program and then install your service pack WITHOUT running Trainz first. And you need to disable your antivirus before any install attempt. If you have done all this and still have the same problem then I am not sure what the next step is for you.

Where do I get the service pack for trainz 2006? Also by disabling the antivirus, I just go into the task manager and a disable that process right?

The service pack for 2006 is on the DLS but exactly where I can't say right now. Disabling your anti-virus can be done by clicking on the icon for it in the right hand end of the task bar and then clicking on "Disable" or "Close" or what ever term is used. The anti-virus will then be restarted next time you re-boot!

Oh yeah, I found the sp for trainz on the download station and its no longer available. I dont get it, how is it that I go from being able to play trainz and I stop playing for a few months and then when I return to play again I can't? Should I just move on the trainz 2009?

missing config files

I had Trainz (also 2006) refuse to run for three days straight. Warm reboots, cold reboots, didn't matter. Nothing would run, not Surveyor, CMP, nothing. As soon as I hit Start from the screen it would spin its wheels going nowhere.

Several days prior to this, I copied my local folder to a removeable hard drive. So with confidence that I could restore anything I lost, I uninstalled and reinstalled the game. All looked well; my routes were still there, and I didn't notice anything that seemed awry.

But as I loaded CMP to add some new assets I downloaded via FTP to a flash drive while I worked, I saw several assets (more than 1300) that were under the Open for Edit tab. I knew that none of these had been there prior to the uninstall/reinstall. And when I tried to commit them, I got back errors message saying each one was missing its config file. I tried to open a few to edit in Explorer, but it would only open My Documents, not the asset's folder. When I went to the local folder and looked at some of them, none of them had config.txt files but DID have something called config.chump. Is this a gag from Auran ridiculing me for the time I have wasted?!?

I did reconnect the removeable drive and copied that local folder back over my existing one, and happily it cut the list of missing config files down to an even 300.

But is there anything I can do aside from downloading all 300 of these again? I started doing just that but ran into three of the first four that couldn't even be found.

If someone has the config.txt file for austin316hockey's Zipper (carnival ride), could you send it to me? This is one the DLS doesn't have anymore.

Thanks so much!!!! It worked like a charm!!!! I am currently reinstalling content that I had in my previous Trainz adventures!!!! Back to the CSX gameplay!!!!!

p.s. I have not been at chick fil a for this long, I go caught up into some other stuff!!
