Trainz 12 Locos

It would be nice to be able to tell if a Loco will work in Trainz 12 before you download it from DLS. I have downloaded about 50 and I think I have about 5 that work. I would really like a CSX or P&LE Loco that works in Trainz 12.

They all can be made to work. All you have to do is tweak them a little as demonstrated by the 100s of solutions provided in the many posts in this forum. Third party designed locos made in accordance with the requirements of older versions are likely to have minor problems when used with new versions of Trainz. Spend a little time to find solutions for older assets or else don't download them and stick with version made for the version/build that you have. You got problems, post them here and we'll help.

I have had the same problem with locomotives, rolling stock, and routes. We should not have to tweak them. They should be clearly labeled as to which version they work with.

Just look at the Trainzbuild! 3.5 is guaranteed to work in TS12, the lower the trainzbuild the less likely it is to work! Trainzbuild is clearly noted on all DLS content and you can filter either CM or the 'black pages' to show nothing but 3.5...

this is for
GP38 P&LE 2025 KUID <:45588:74>

Error: Dependency <kuid:-10:206> is unknown.
Warning: Aliased meshes cannot currently be verified by Trainz.
Error: Progressive meshes are no longer supported by Trainz. Though these meshes may work in Trainz, it is recommended that you switch to a LOD mesh.

The progressive mesh one is simple you download the pm to im http://members.optusnet.com.au/~villaump/pevsoft.htm

thumbnails you can ignore it.
The rest I don't know what you do to them.

it's fairly simple, mostly:
1. The -10:206 sounds like an Auran built-in. A little searching should find it.

2. The "aliased meshes" is a warning only; it will not affect using it in TS12.

3. Progressive meshes. Download PEV's PMtoIM program and create an .im mesh with it (you may need to change the body mesh and the shadow mesh both). Change all .pm references in the .config file to .im and you are good to go.

4. You can ignore the 'thumbnails' warning; this also will not affect it in TS12.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: found out the the kuid -10:206 is a GP38; wondering if maybe it is from the built-ins included with TS2004 or TS2006? This is why you are getting the 'aliased meshes' prompt; your engine is aliased to that mesh. I see by your registration you went from UTC to TS12, so I'm guessing it is a kuid that wasn't carried over into your current installation.

45588:74 is a very old (2002) Paintshed Reskin loco. It downloads and commits into TS2010 without error. It needs a different bogey since the default one isn't animated.
Here are a couple of lines from the config.txt file in kuid:-10:206
product-id "paintshed"
product-version 1.3
product-type "template"
trainz-build 1.3
