trains that won't move?

I'm new to trainz but enjoy it very much. I've downloaded TRS II Clinchfield but am having problems when creating trains. In surveyor mode, I add a consist and locomotive. Then in driver, I try to move it, the locomotive starts, takes the slack out of the trains, then stops as if the breaks on the consist are on. The locomotive wheels will even slip. I've checked the obvious, the brakes, and they are in release.

What can I do to alleviate this most fustrating detraction from a great game?

How heavy is your consist? It could be too heavy for the loco, to find out right click on the loco and check the weight in tow.

thanks for the replies. All brakes are off. I can use the AI to start the train, and the same thing happens, so I don't think it is brakes. I've already checked the consist weight by using just a loco and caboose, but the same happens. If you go in reverse, the loco and consist role fine.

Which version of Trainz are you using because if it is Trainz Classics III some locos get stuck for some reason

the switches are set appropriately, signals line up. I'm using Trainz 2006, north america version.

I've only noticed it on the Clinchfield so far.

Thanks for the help

When I downloaded the Clinchfield layout and scn, there were dependencies missing. What ways have been successfull to you folks for finding the dependicies?

By using CMP.

"Drag" the asset ( route ) in CMP to the "Download Helper "window on the left hand of your screen. CMP will search for missing dependencies.

When items are not available on the DLS you will have to search the www for them. I usually try to find out who the creator of a certain item is and from there try to find on which site (s)he upload the items.

You could use the search function here on the forum and type in the kuid number. That usually gives a few hits and might direct you to the source of an item.

Good luck

Are there any messages from the drivers? Check the message window for anything like "Can't plot route", "Junction missing lever", etc.

If there are any broken tracks, such as those connected to a railroad crossing, station or other interative industry for example, the train will not move under AI control. They'll ignore any commands you give them to move the train.

To find a broken track, you need to either drive the entire route yourself, and wait to derail at the broken track, or inspect the route from above.

Make sure your track spline tool has the option (under Surveyor options) to show spline points. All of the properly conneted spline points should be yellow. If there are any white ones on the track, this can mean there's a problem. These can be fixed simply by clicking on them. If the circle doesn't turn yellow, this means that the track is still broken. Sometimes the tracks are butted real close, or over lap instead of connecting. You need to use the track spline move/placement tool and move the spline track end on to the end of the fixed-track object like a crossing or industry to connect them, or in the case of a broken spline, make sure that the circle has turned yellow.

To find a missing junction or track mark, you need to walk the route slowly and inspect the whole thing mile by mile, inch by inch. Make sure the yellow track marks are facing the proper direction, and that there are no missing levers. If there's a missing lever on the intended route, and you drive the train, the train will derail. Finding an incorrect trackmark still requires the walkabout in Surveyor. The reason being that humans don't see the direction markers in Driver, just the AI drivers do.
