ok, i made a shortcut on the desktop via steam.. but no run as admin.. i am planning to get rid of steam.. many issues this and that.

You don't have to run it through Steam, find the Steam folder Trainz is in and run it direct from there, create a shortcut to the desktop and set that to run as Administrator.

Tom Jan,

The content updates may not always be ready for download so don't worry about them. I have found that sometimes they are listed as available, but in reality the local database is not in synch with the server. It'll take sometimes a day or two, or three for both to be in synch, and then your updates will download.

I don't do updates with Content Manager.
Use the Content Updates button on the main screen and then click the Update All button and let it run until completion. I had more than 1000 out of date items that were updated overnight, I don't know how long it took but next day I got only two pending updates, maybe they weren't available.

On the other hand, if I load any outdated item to be downloaded in CM I discovered that it won't update, so I am using the Content Updates button successfully.

I'm suprised by that. Normally, if the process is followed correctly, only updates that are not actually available for download will not download.

I am new to Trainz so bear with me. My Content Update says I have 677 Content Updates. The routes I have load and run OK, and I have no Missing Dependencies. Do I really need to download all 677 updates?

Dick,

These are content updates for items that were included with the program discs (downloads too), but have since been updated by the original content creator. You don't have to download these or have to download them all at once.

The only exception to what John has stated is if you want to play Multiplayer, which requires that you install the content updates in order to work properly.
