Train simulators

Well, graphics cards have nothing to do with lag so yea. Try restarting your router, or using a wire Ethernet connection.

Well, on TS2016 it was really laggy (10FPS) but when i got a graphics card it now runs super smooth, more then 30FPS, Trainz however is still the same amount of frame rates with or without a graphics card (15FPS or slower), also all my settings are set to low, still the same amount.

Also, it's nothing to do with my memory, i still have more then 90GB left on my PC.

All i can do is get use to the lag and wait for a even better graphics card for christmas.

But once again, a graphics card wont do ANYTHING for lag.

Just what most people are saying. train simulator is very good simulation, it looks pretty, drives well, every time a new one comes out you get upgraded free, and has lots of polished content buuut that content is generally expensive.
compared to Trainz, i find the editor tricky, and the amount of custom content lacking. tranz may not run as well (despite TANE looking beautiful, anda ctually running better than any other Trainz on my system) its still not the same as train simulator, but i can sit here and download all the custom content i want for TANE, and its just great.
Get train simulator in a steam sale, and be very very very cautious what DLC you buy, if any.

So you remember it John!

Just in passing i would say that you are right about tramlines in say TRS12 with some wee groans that i found out and that big one I have done. it is obviously not on the DLS yet was rather a rough affair being my first if rather large effort on Trainz! Dug it out to do some rather obvious changes but going to limit myself on that because when you include so much of a city and suburbs you could go on for ever altering things. Also want to get back to the N.Irish /Irish thing doing.

To me Trainz is far wider an operating thing than the others whatever their scenery and such and that is the top thing for me and gives more variety all round.

Do you have shadows enabled by chance? That causes dropped frame rate and lag for slower end computers.
I originally had them disabled for trainz (this was when I was using a casual - poor computer) since it lagged up my old Computer, and the frame rate was unbearable. Disabled that, and I got a fairly good amount of FPS (like 30 or so) while building my route/fooling around with some maps for a bit.
Now that I upgraded to a faster PC more for gaming, I got around 60-65 fps without shadows. Then I re-enabled Shadows and still kept the good ol' 60-65 frame rate.
Try that too if you haven't :)
(Also: I don't think this really plays a part, but is your display mode set to DirectX and not OpenGL?)

Well, replying to the OP,
Trains Simulator (Microsoft) was initially my favorite and classic game that I still own. Although the textures were pretty outdated (Note that the game supported up to Windows 98) and there's some funky glitches with the simulator, I personally enjoyed it much more than the other games I played long ago. (Except for Counter-Strike... Playing on private servers. Haha)
The routes were cool too. My favorite was the Tokyo - Hakone Session. Personally enjoyed running a BNSF Consist through Tokyo and then derailing it on accident.. By switching my train to the far left end where I encounter Station Sidings
Well yea. Was my favorite overall :D

For me, it's been Trainz for the most part. Having discovered the TRS06 Demo back in 2009 (geez, seems like a long time ago!), I really wanted to get Trainz (06 to be specific since that was the only one I knew then). Since getting 2012, I've grown fond of the Trainz series games, and just last week, getting Trainz 06 after wanting it for 7 years.

MSTS on the other hand, well, it's no longer something I even look into. Since there is no thomas content for it no more, there is no real point in it.

Railworks, well, that in itself is too hard. Even if I wanted to redownload the game from steam, there really is no real need for it, even if railworks has thomas content.

railworks and run 8 are the other ones I play, I DID play open rails till the game said its missing a file... I do not like the MSTS/ORTS type games though, for me what matters is not taking control of a hotshot intermodal consist with realistic controls, I like to do a little bit of foaming in the game

Thanks, i managed to find where to turn off the shadows it did help a tiny bit.

Also, i use OpenGL, because when i use DirectX the text is blurry in-game.

I picked up TrainSim 2015 last year during the Steam Winter sale along with some DL and it wasn't terribly expensive. It's different from Trainz, definitely, in both good and bad ways. I really don't mind the difficulties with route building since I don't build routes, even in Trainz. I think it's good for just driving. I mainly use it for the US passenger stuff, especially NJ Transit. I don't play it very often, in fact a couple of days ago was the first time I started it up this year and was surprised to see it updated to the 2016 version. Overall it's not as flexible or as user friendly as Trainz, but it's a nice change of pace.
