Train physics (weight and engine power) question?

I imagine this has been asked, so if someone could point me to the right thread, it would be greatly app.
My question is, how realistic is the weights of locos and rolling stock. How realistic is the power of the locos? I have not had a full train that could not be moved by a loco, that I am aware of. If it is not accurate how do you modify, and where could I find actual engine and weight specs? Thanks in advance.

Hello Oz,

 It seams that Auran Trainz, an open-ended program, is configurable to algorithms we call enginespecs, hornsounds, enginesounds, interiors, bogeys, etc.

We have so many threads about performance, please use your imagination & go where directed.

Most of the problem is not in the default content, but in 3rd party assets.

Sometimes you will find in the details in Driver mode, that stuff just don't seam to weigh-up...

Some don't, but some cars have an allowed amount far above what the car is built to carry, because the ingenuity to config a car for a product or products is still a new game.

Having said that, most commodities are correct in their individual mass weight, reflected in their config.txt file, in kilograms.

The weight in the game in Driver mode, is in metric tons. Here is a utility to give a comparison on weight, called Calc-It.

You know, train simulation is a complicated thing, but yes you can do whatever your interest in railfanning & railroading needs are, it just takes some homework!
