Track Sounds

Hey Guys,

I was was wondering if it's possible to replace the track sounds that come with the jointed rail content and how one might go about doing it.

Kindest Regards,
RailSimulator

Sometimes the Global Trainz railjoint sounds get annoying, with enginesound, crossing bell sounds, loco bell ... etc ... etc ... playing from 20,000 baseboards distant.

I like RTS Track on Romanian Trainz Studios Sine CFRv2.0 it can be adjusted in the config file, to sound more in sync with slow train speeds, (by altering the numerals). It does sound European, and more like passenger equipment, than US freight sounds though.

There is a Squeel Track at USLW by Slavedriver, which sounds annoying when applied route wide, and should only be applied to curves.

lol, didnt really answer the question there cascade...
Railsimulator, so you want to have the JR tracksounds on other tracks? is that right? I thought the sounds were in the rollingstock, but I dont actually know off the top of my head because i always use JR track and trainz. Ill have a look, if it is in the track, then see if there is anything in the config that you can copy across and the files in the main folder thingy after you open to edit.

i thank you for the reply but in actual fact im trying to replace the jointed rail track sound. it is indeed found in the jointed rail content however i was wondering if that sound could be replaced with the rrmods track sound.

As far as I know, you can. Just make sure the filename reference in the config.txt is the same as the filename for the track sound you wish to use.

To get rid of the built-in jointed rail sound, add this line to the trainzoptions.txt file, located in the root folder where TS is installed.

-DisableRailJointSound

This will turn off the jointed rail sound, and allow the other sounds which are specific to rolling stock or track to play.
IMO, this is one of the weakest features in TS12. The sounds have never been very realistic. Custom locos or rolling stock often has much better sounds, but the game itself is seriously lacking in this respect.

Is there a track, or a tracksound that one can incorporate into a track, that sounds realistic to 40ft railjoint sound effects ?

This sounds great: <kuid:338228:1286> RRMods Tracksound

Streadway or Rumour3 made some track, I think that has the track sound in it. There was some from Romania, but I can't remember the author. The track is really old, though it does look good. From what I remember when I last used it in TRS2006, is if you put in a small piece anywhere in your route, the track sounds then are used all over.

So glad I was told how to disable track sounds. Most mainline rail (since at least mid 80s on)(in the US, anyway) is continuous welded rail. And I can hear the junction thumps and squeaks better!

I replaced a lot of track before I found out it wasn't the track:o.

So, for older branchlines and yards we can use a track that has it's own jointed sounds? That would be nice, trains and track still do the thump-a-thump-a, just not all the dang time (esp modern commuter rail). So annoying.

Add to the trainzoptions file: -disablerailjointsound

To MP Track Wood v2 config file add:

track-sound {
default {
track-sound <kuid2:400260:423265:1>
priority 1000
}
}

or any other track, add any tracksound kuid on the DLS

Ooh... So I just choose a track (for sidings and the like) and I can put any one of the available tracksounds into it. Shiny!

Thank you for the detailed directions... even I will be hard-pressed to screw that up!

I am downloading all sorts of tracksounds, and inserting the kuids into MP Track Wood v2

Just like Slavedrivers "Squeal" track ... you can use it in hump retarders, and turnout frogs

Much is said about adding lines to Trainzoptions. But now here is T:ANE. And it does not have this Trainzoptions? and if so, where?

It's there some where ... or you have to custom create the file in Notepad, and put it into T:ANE

I found a slew of new tracksounds ... I will keep you updated, and make a video

The Trainzoptions.txt file does not exist in T:ANE. That was strictly a JET engine thing. The hope is to eventually add some of the more useful options into the T:ANE interface, however, many of the older options are now built-in and set by default so there's no reason to play with them anyway. In fact as has been found out the hard way with many of these settings in TS12, these actually caused a detrimental effect.

When will the useful options be available to us? Soon(TM) like a lot of things. :)

It has been posted before and I got a vague answer.. is about freeintcam. On the other hand, some of the new locos have plenty of camera positions so is not so bad missing this. But the older locos, with restricted number of cameras, show the deficiency. I guess it all falls on how many inconveniences and compromises we can support for the sake of progress.:(

-freeintcam is apparently not for T:ANE, as apparently T:ANE does not have a trainzoptions file, to add the -freeintcam tag line

-freeintcam in all other lower versions, allows you to roam about the cab, and outside of the cab, and view other trains, and take screenshots

I learned some new things in this thread. I changed the tracksound to a really good one I found on JR for the S-2 trucks, but it changes even the locomotive truck sound too, when I didn't even open the locomotives trucks sound config file. Why does it do that?
