Track Marks vs Priority Marks

On most of my routes with double track mine line I run the right hand track one direction and the left the opposite direction. This means I have a lot of track marks to keep the AI on the correct track. All of these track marks are labeled. If I use the priority mark and number it #1 priority would it be necessary to label those marks or would the AI follow the marks? I would like to to eliminate all those track marks.

Hi

I've never named any priority markers when I use them and it doesn't seem to have any detrimental affect. You would have to set all the priority markers on the same track to the same priority - eg Westbound to priority 1 and leave the Eastbound at the default of priority 2. Just make sure that you set the priority of Westbound trains to priority 1. The priority can be set on the fly by using a driver command such as Priorityz for trains coming from portals. Wherever possible a priority 1 train will use priority 1 track.

Would it not be easier to just use direction markers on the main line as trains only go in the direction of the marker.

stagecoach - I had a problem with one of my locos refusing to go where it was directed and it took my awhile to find the culprit. It was a direction marker farther down the track that was preventing the Ai to go where it was instructed. I haven't had any problems with the track marks and the thought occurred to me to use the priority marks. I'll try replacing some along the main route and see how they work. Should save me a lot of naming track marks. Thanks everyone for replying.

Is your route within TS12 and is this issue with the trackmark occuring within TS12?

I've had that too, but it was my own doings as I had track marks facing the wrong direction. I stared at them and stared at them because they were in the proper location. I could drive the train myself, but the AI would be dumbfounded, stubborn, and refuse to budge. Eventually, I walked the line again and found the culprits. Note the plural.

Another thing is, up to TS12 SP1, track objects, including track marks, signals, bridge abutments, speed signs and the like will tend to clump up and change direction if a spline point is inserted. This can definitely screw things up too as I've also discovered the hard way.

John - I've encountered everything that you mentioned but managed to figured them out and corrected them. This game will make you think and at 70 that's not a bad thing. Keeps my mind from falling asleep.

All track spline points... You add or remove them and the trackside objects will seem to disappear. What they are doing is moving down the line to the ends somewhere. In this process I have lost bridge abutments, switch levers, signals and speed signs. I would just replace them thinking the were deleted. Then one day I was working on my route and noticed my bridge abutments were missing and so were a few other things. I replaced them again and moved up the track only to find 12 speed signs, a couple of signals, and switch levers, and also a bunch of bridge abutments which were buried in the ground. I happened to notice these because they were sticking out a bit on one edge where the track was lifted slightly.

With TS12 SP1 and up via T:ANE, this is no longer an issue.
