TOPSIG iPortaling

Yes, I keep my host machine up to date, and I have noticed too many little bugs that I hope are fixed in the hot fix.
 
Im ready to throw my hands up in the air and give up on this, for the time being. The update is on the DLS, as well as all the content. But when I uploaded I was sent an e-mail stating that at least 6 pages worth assets where not on the DLS. Which seamed strange to me as this update only added 2 locomotives, 1 box car, 1 building at a few minor textures. But none the less I looked to see what these where. Most of which show as built in.

So Ive got a few ideas as to what might have gone wrong here.

A. I tried out the in game uploader. It worked, but I fear it might messed some thing up in the list of asset's and wants to refer to my built in ones and not the ones on the DLS. Uploading via the web page and a CDP file, how all previous iterations of MRL have been uploaded, might resolve this.

B. SP1, pre hot fix, screwed up so many assets that where on MRL rendering it unusable for the time being.

C. The DLS is currently experiencing some issues. I fear this might interfere with the way assets are checked when uploading, downloading, and attempting to run an MP session. Resulting in the "Some asset's are not on the DLS and this session cant be used" error. Which I know at least 3 of you will ignore the fact that I am well aware that you'll get it and kindly inform me of it.


So whats my plan. Nothing at this point. Going to my cabin this weekend to work on my new layout. Hopefully come Monday morning I'll be up to look more into whats going on. But PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF WHAT SANITY I HAVE LEFT, dont comment saying "I downloaded the route and session but got the missing asset's message' and cant host or join sessions." UNLESS, you can host an join a session. Then I'll n=know its just my two PC's that wont load the session right.


Amendment...just look at my mail box again and it seams that my update for the 16th, just after SP1 came out, also had that message. So not only where there 2 JR assets that prevented a session form working, but at least 3 pages of missing built in content.

To be honist, its quite heart breaking to see this happining. I work hard to set all this up, only to have a automated system, that oddly enough I support, say "you no mulitiplayer today."

If I cant fix this, and you guys still want to do a more organized iPortal, based on how we had MRL set up but out side of MP let me know. I have other ideas we can do.

That's funny Jib that was just what I was going to say. I,m trying to fix it now but don,t hold your breath! With a struggle I might add as SP1 has messed a lot of things up including CM, but I,m goin off topic. I managed to get a Route and session in the same state as A and SLT, with no missing, unknown, broken or modified assets, but just like A and SLT, I got the dreaded message when I tried to join the session. I have now deleted the route, session and then I deleted a lot of assets that are showing up as faulty. I think some of these are in your route/session so this may be where the problem lies. I noticed one was the Aircraft fuselage. At the moment I,m doing an EDR and then I,m going to download the route and session once more and try to identify any faulty assets. Should I fail to start a session next time than I,m at a complete loss as to what to do. I,m about to give up on Trainz altogether as I can,t play any of the sessions I like and migrate to Run8. Things have got that bad.
 
I made my content squeaky clean, completed an extended database repair which threw up another half dozen or so faulty items which I deleted and restarted. I downloaded the route and session perfectly and I still can,t start a session. I am now giving up multiplayer as a hopeless cause and I,m going to play jibs Operating session solo. N3V Games should hang their heads in shame regarding the deplorable way their have treated their multiplayer customers.
 
Some observations, so far I have not been able to download MRL. CM is messed up like you say Jib, I have noticed the search routines are taking FOREVER and gives the apperence of a hang. :( My suspicion is that in MP it times out and says asset not found. I have done so many EDR I lost count, not good these patches are like a couple of cow flops!

I am up for iPortaling Jib if we can get people interested. Hopefully NV3 gets their act together but I am not going to hold my breath.

Edit: If we do iPortal we should put an equipment list together and each person can enter there roster just lilke we did for commodities.

I would love to do some iPortaling if we can't get MP. Let me know and I will drop into driver and get some stock rolling

I do believe that the DLS servers are having issues. And this is why they are going so slow.

And yes, make up a list of content you want to send. Remember, only DLS content. I can make up a consist file like I did for MRL and then distribute it to every one else. Same content limits as before, but Ill bump it up to 10 cars that you can use.

The basic idea behind the non mp iPortal is that of a modular railway. I have module A, you have B, some one else is C and lastly another person has D. A train going from module A to module C must run across module B. this means that each member gets to interact with the train, adding or removing cars as it works is way to each of us. (I'll be updating the OP to have the new and improved rules for iPortaling soon, but I want to get the rough draft out here now.)

Now we would have a set time and day(s) of the week that we would all hop on and send trains. I'm thinking Tuesday and Thursday around 6 or 7 pm est till when ever. But in the event that say the player with module B is unavailable for what ever reason, we would not skip them. Any trains would just be held until next session.

And yes, we are building a loop. D>A<>B<>C<>D<A Any time we get a new person, we just add them to the loop. And we will assume that the entire network is an East to West railroad, even if some routes are North to South. In that event, West bounds would be going South and East bounds would be going North. If a train enters your route as an East bound and is not your locomotives, it must continue to be an East bound. But you can remove or add as many cars as you like to it. But it must continue to be a East bound. If a train arrives at your route and is your power, then you can terminate the train and end its trip right there.

If a train comes onto your route and is under powered, needs more locomotives. You can add your own locomotives but they must be behind the ones that came into your route, and the train is still on its heading. When this train terminates at its home road, your power stays there. That user can then add your locomotives to a train as trailing units as extra power or a power move. (Please, no sending of just locomotives.) If a train that is not yours but has your locomotives in it arrives, you can pull out your locomotives.

Once again each of us will pick one railroad to represent. Locomotives must match accordingly. (No leased units. Patch jobs are ok, as long as it clearly says the name of the railroad you represent some where on them.)

Portal IDs will be your railroads reporting mark followed by a E or W for east or west. All caps an no spaces. If your portal is in the south, its an W. North gets a E. (Mine would be CSXE and CSXW) Ill up the OP latter today/tonight with a much better looking set of these same rules.


As for Run8 Colour, I do have it on both computers and am capable of hosting a long session on the host PC. Ill put one up for the weekend and PM the details to connect to it to any one who wants to join.

All these are on the DLC, I can find things but it is still DOG SLOW.

And there goes Jib's remaining sanity. If MP/DLS/CM are not fixed within the next couple of weeks, I would definitely be interested in doing the iPortal system that was mentioned.

That should shed some light into why you are having issues. If this doesn't help, then Ill need more beer.

You see, this right here is the problem I have with most forum communities. Be it here, or the Run8 forums, or the Railworks forums, or even forums for other games. People fail to read the forums before posting. Then the same question gets asked a 100 times. Or people dont read there there might be a bug or a known issue and then get mad when some thing dose not work. Like what just happened here. Same thing, though much worse, is going on over at the KSP forums.

But yea, GN. I'm going back here in a bit and updating the OP with those rules. I think until MP can get sorted out by the devs we'll have to hold off on it. Just got to my cabin up north for the weekend though. Might just decide to sway away from the forums for the weekend, after I up date the OP.
 
ichat and MP i think are down, as for Content Manager it has been causing problems for quite a few over the last few days, stalling disconnects etc.

Just have to wait it out, they will sort it out eventually.

Yeah you missed all the fun! But there is always time for you to experience the pain we are having :)

Anyway Jib I'll be taking Pennsy as before. iPortals have been renamed to PRRW and PRRE.
