To merge or not to merge...

Jim - you mean you have had the read-only thing happen with no merges having been made? And then you can save the same map a couple more times before the problem appears again? Haven't seen that one yet. On the merged maps I'm talking about, the problem is there every time I make a change. Well, one of them does allow me to make one small change at a time, like inserting a trackmark, after which it will save normally. But any larger change or more than one change, and I have to save with a new name.

On those same and some other maps, in setting up a session, I have to make fairly small set-up rounds with the interactive industries. If I do too much at a time, Surveyor says I have made a map change. If I set up just one or two industries at a time and don't spot any rolling stock, these changes are recognized as session changes.

And, jytte, you have made many merges with practically bare boards, with no problem. Others report track interruption at interactive industries after merging maps.

Sounds like merge is a flakey operation that is influenced by map content, which results in intermittent and unpredictable results.

That is what's happening. My hunch is that I get the "must save under a different name" message because of the high amount of baseboards. I was well into the project before this started to occur.

Using the ErazorA program, I discover I currently have 1749 baseboards. That number will grow another 50 to 100.

So...to merge or not to merge?

Ive just checked on the Plymouth to Paddington line and it comes to 2196 plus 372 from the West Somerset Railway All connected up.

Hi guy's

I have a 202+mile route that I have been building on and off again since 2003. I have had the "read only error" while trying to save the route, and I might have a solution. At least it is working for me.

On my Trainz drive I only had 10 or do gig free, and when I deleted 56gig of files and had 56+gig free I was then able to save the route without the error.

It seems Trainz needs an awful lot of free space to save a route that is only 100+meg in size.

I hope that helps.

Regards
