tips for a subway route

You preliminarily, could build it above ground, to get curves and trackage correct ... then later on sink it below ground by @30m.

There are big long static asphalt cover splines that can be used as streets.

For the underground use stations that can easily be sunk (preferrably non spline if you are new but that's your decision). On the track front don't put in a lot of connecting points as you will need to sink them all individually.

Finally for transitions to surface (if used) i recommend that you use something like a ramp or by the tunnel exit put a wall across then a backdrop on top of it so what's behind it is invisible.

Hope this helps.

I'm also trying to create a LU route but can't find any tool or building that allows me to have track go from surface to underground without going through the grid and making it look terrible. Is there any way of making a 'hole' in the grid?

You might be interested in my 'Metro DT tunnel entrance' KUID2:275817:60535 and 'Metro retaining wall' KUID2:275817:37045.

These were designed for my Paris Metro project. The tunnel entrance needs a dighole, which it conceals when carefully placed, and the retaining wall lines each side of the slope down to/up from this entrance.

I believe from memory that the tunnel entrance has built-in, non-updating Metro track of my own design, but it would be a simple matter to amend the config file (permitted by my licence) to use any other track or to make it updating.

I refer to my Distict Line and associated session for ideas. I have seen some attempts at tunnel track for the LU but they are not really successful and once you have seen one station you have seen them all. As the district line is subsurface for only a part of its journey, tunnel construction is easily made with the parts with only one side wall, to allow for complex junctions. My trackline shows the whole of the circle line except for the Hammersmith branch, and the District lline from Upminster to Just west of West Kensington. I have yet to upload my extension to Putney, but I haven't finished it. The track line is nearly geo accurate, and some stations have accurately real named junctions and signals. Feel free to mess about with it. Apart from the track there is no scenery, as who need scenery underground? The overground sections also have no scenery but as the constrcutons was in proto form I had no interest.

Search for stuff by my user name.

You may need to download some AJS material. and use andi06's rules.

Mity22, I look forward to that one day you mention, sounds like a really good route. I'll also have to go and look for this District Line route that is on the DLS. I quite enjoy a good session on the underground routes.
