Thomas the Tank Engine season 12 - thoughts?

TTTE

Honestly, honestly, I don't see what all the great big camotion is about the new show. I think the animation technology is great. Sure, Ringo Starr, and George Carlin were great narrators ( perhaps mixing it up with Shining Time Station ? ). Perhaps the same people with complaints about the show, also have issues adapting to Vista, or have MAC PC's...get with the times...and enjoy these wonderful technological advances in animation. I have watched the show from time to time, and am amazed, and wonder how they made all the wonderful layout, scenery, and audio/smoke/steam effects. If one does not have good positive things to say about a thread, then maybe you got up on the wrong side of the rock. <---Eeeeek !

But the thread is about how the have changed it. You say you enjoy looking at the model railroad on the TV show? Well next season that is gone. HIT said that the next season will be all CGI. No more Model Railway and No more Toy Trains. I still stand where I am. The old shows had more character then the new ones.

I do have problems adapting to Vista. Why? Because Vista is a critically bad Microsoft brand. We all know the curse. Microsoft makes 1 good system, XP, then makes a bad, Vista, then makes a good, Windows 7 due for 2009 release.

I remember BoCo barely. The most I remember of him was the toy model I had. You know the metal models with plastic holes for couplers.

Trying to get back on topic, but the animated people and animated faces feel out of place to me. Even if they go all CGI it still won't feel right. Thomas the Tank Engine was a Story Andrew told to his son. Most os the stories were based on true accidents and happenings. Some were just for fun. Now days most of the new stories seemed based on fun. There is nothing there that makes them feel totally plausible.

I know I have Responded 3 times in this thread and I know I sound like a broken record, but I adore TtTE and this is something I strongly thing was a wrong turn for HIT.

i dont mind the cgi as it helps express the engines expressions and the narrator dont have to go "said Thomas" it seems better because you can understand who's talking even better. and the animated people is an exellent feature. its better than seeing someone move it by just the figures shadow like in Down the Mine. you guys just look at the negatives i see. they decided to finally bring in the future. let's think about what inhancements were put in. they dont need to replace faces for every scene.

I've been watching TTTE for years, as far back as I can remember. I honestly think that the quality and overall gist of the program has degraded a great deal in the past years. It's now been dumbed down in such a way as to make it appeal even more to an audience which for the most part wouldn't mind just watching the trains run about. Animating faces won't exactly help anything either, it'll only make it that much more mainstream. TTTE was unique because unlike most other shows I've seen in its category, it wasn't animated; just look what they've done now...

I like the older series better, especially with Ringo Starr and George Carlin narrating, I was always expecting the latter to start cussing James or some other poor kettle out, seems he managed to keep his cool:hehe: Ever since Alec Baldwin left the narration post I've not bought any more TTTE videos. I almost died laughing when I heard that ex-Bond man Brosnan would be doing narration for the UK...

Rotten CGI Animations

Oi! Thomas the tank engine was what i grew up on and is the reason i chose to apprentice my uncle (who's and engineer). When i catch a break I watch TTTE episodes on my old VHS, On youtube though i found out about the new animation!

ack not only was it horrible it looked way to much like the fricken jay jay the jet plane. In addition new characters every once in a while are fine by me, but HIT entertainment has devoted so much time to making new ones they have completely taken out the old characters who may have been helping characters, but were great plot ideas, I am 17 now, and am sorry to say this new season had just scarred me and I will not be watching any new thomas episodes what-so-ever

I'm lucky, as I have two videos of the old series, and they're fantastic.

I also have a two-inch-thick book of all the original stories. Fabulous.

If those parents wanted a set of thinly disguised moral stories hidden behind steam locomotives, they should have started their own show. Thomas dis not be deserve to be humiliated in this way! It was perfect, and now they've ruined it. Especially the NG engines.

I am 62, and when I was a child I remember getting a book from the local library with trains with faces. Thomas didn't exist then, there was Henry, Gordon, James and Edward, that's all. So it has changed a lot over the years.
I haven't seen the later series, but my grandkids have a heap of TTE videos and dvds that they watch over and over. They are 5 and 7 and loved them from a very young age.

Cheers,
Mike

That was the time of 'The three railway engines', right? Thomas came in the second book series.
The engines got their numbers in 'Henry the Green engine'.

That sounds right, it is a long time ago but I remember that Henry wasthe main engine. I would have only been 7 or 8 at the time, I know I got it ot of the library a number of times. Steam trains were an interest to me because we had a line that ran through the middle of our farm that was all steam in the early 1950s. We would run up to hang on the gate as the train went past and the driver blew the whistle there for a road crossing about 50 metres up the grade.

Chers,
Mike

My basic opinion is,
There goes my whole d*** childhood.
The faces look awful, and they freak me out.
I liked Static faces and Static people because it's more likable that way.
And the s13 is going CGI....
dear lord.
The series pretty much stink now.
When I have kids, I'll tell them to watch the old ones instead :D
Especially the NG engines.
Sorry, what are the NG engines?

Speaking of thomas, something funny when I wqas at my Grandparent's house for thanksgiving and my cousin was there.
We were eating dinner, and my cousin wouldn't eat his vegetables, so my Mom says,
"Eat your veggies! Thomas eats his veggies!"(He likes Thomas)
I decided to point out, being the literalist that I am,
"Actually, they consume coal and water and exude steam, if you speak of a steam engine."
And my cousin said, "Yeah, it's not coal."
We LOL'd for a while after that

i think that hit was trying to make it better but i didn't really think its good but hero of the rails was better and i am going to really watch season 13 :Y::Y::(:'(

What I like:
-New engines: Emily, Molly, Spencer, Rosie and Murdoch are great additions! The American engines, Rosie I can understand, but Hank seems a bit out of place, I think it'd be much more appropriate to have him based on an S160, or even an S200 rather than a K4... Even so, I like both of them, but if only they could add the rest of the engines from the books not in the series as well...:o

What I don't like:
-Stories: Just wish they'd go back to using Awry's stories as the basis, and the characters that were introduced, while still including the aforementioned new ones!

-The CGI: Personally, I like when they use it in movies and remakes! For Thomas, it's acceptable, but I liked the models they used! Those really make you want to go and buy their toys! Can't help but worry about the models and props from the series. I hope Awry's family will keep them preserved as Disney's has preserved his train!

-Narrator::eek: Don't get me started! I liked Ringo Starr, George Carlin, and even Alec Baldwin did fine! This guy, sounds like he's just reading words off of flash cards! I know it's a children's show, but come on!:n: And what's with Sir Topham Hat saying the misbehaving engine has "caused confusion and delay" all the time?!

-Theme song: Seriously, why did they have to change it? The old one's been around for so long, and it's just something that's always been associated with Thomas! And it was rather catchy, too! The new theme song, on the other hand, just sounds like a mish-mash of random music notes, more like something created by a 2 years old boy!:n: Again, the show is aimed at young children, but that's no excuse!

-Basically, as long as the original models are preserved, in museums or otherwise, I'll be ok with the show being CGI.
