This is getting ridiculous

I bought the game in Dec. and in Feb. I learned that my computer did not have enough memory. I went out and bought another computer just for the game. There is nothing else on it. The problem was created when I installed the program from the disk that came with the game. That was no longer the program. With Shane Turners help I've been told to update the program with the updates. I managed one update and the second one failed. It would seem to me that either Auran or N3V should be able to supply me with the latest version of the game without all this trouble. This all started with a mini-map that will not clear to permit the Surveyor to load. Is it any wonder that i'm getting fed up with this game as its one thing after another. Its now six months later and I still don't have a completed route. Deisan

Can I ask what error the second update gave you? It's important that both are eventually installed in order to bring your version up to the same pre re-installation level.

I thought I sent this but I'm getting confused with all the problems. I've been out of action the last two days. As well as I can remember it occured with trying to update 48249 to 49922. The message had to do with ' something not backed up followed by a series of locations, what I think of as directories. I tried to run it again today but it doesn't even try. The build count is still at 47772 as if the 47772 to 48249 did not run. Frankly I think I need to uninstall the program and get the complete current version to load. Anything else only leads to other problems and doubts. Someone at Auran or N3V must have a cyrrent version. If that is completed and it still fails to correct the mini map problem than I'm finished. The game is locked up on not being able to remove this map when trying to open the surveyor. DEisan
PS: As for the screen shot I can print it but I don't know how to attach it to this message.

Regarding the screenshot, you will need to upload it to a photo sharing site in order to post it here.

As for the error, it will help greatly if you can get the exact error when you next run the patcher (and make sure you turn off your antivirus software during patching).

I'm begining to think of you as a close friend we send messages back and forth so much. I think my youngest daughter has used a photo sharing site. I'll call her when she gets of work One other thing to tell you. I was looking at the content manager for a loco that I had downloaded a few days ago but its no longer on my computer. What surprised me was the build is now at 48249. So the first patch did go through. I tried to update 48249 to 49922 but it never did anything. I'll try it again. maybe it will go know.

One thing I would suggest checking at this point is that you are running as administrator if using Windows Vista or later.

First: This time it started running the patch witout aborting. This is the 48249 to 49922 patch. It appeared to go all the way to end and then gave me an error message. I think this is more a warning message as follows. "Failed to copy the file C:/program files(x86\N3V Games\Railroad Simulator\Data.ja'error 32:
This all was repeated again on the next line. It then said it could not complete the process because the process was still in use. I don't understand that because nothing else was running..

Next: We have never used a Supervisor set up on any of our computers. The only other thing on the computer with Trainz is the Adobe Reader to help me find refernces in the rule book

Firstly, I'd advise using Safe Mode to install the patches. See one of my threads in the TS12 forum on this.

Secondly, I would advise running Trainz as administrator if you haven't already.

Hello again Shane
Well I'm sitting at 49922 build. Other than it took a lot longer to load the program today, nothing else has changed. I tried CTL + M but the mini map is still on the screen and I can't get into my route in Surveyor. In Driver mode the route is present and you can build trains and run them over the route. As for the Screen Shot of the screen with the mini map I have no way of getting that to you. It is the normal small map showing the two pads merged in the center of the screen. The 7 panels of the surveyor are lined up on the right edge of the screen but do nothing. I could run the Service pack and all of the Hot fixes but that seems pointless. This problem has occured twice. The first time I got out of it by finding an autosave that went back to a previous version of the route free of the mini map. I don't have that option this time. There appears to be a bug in the software I have and it had to be before any patches.
My wife is not happy over the money I spent on a game and then a new computer to run the game on. The time spent building my layout on Trainz has not been overlooked. Unless I can get a clean and current version of the software I have to call it quits I can't stand the heat.

Would making a clone of the affected route in content manager reset the mini-map and enable deisan to properly edit the new copy?

Thanks for trying to come to my aid. There are three versions of my route on Content manager. I can bring the route up on Driver and setup and run trains to my hearts content. No matter if I try to go into Surveyor first or from the driver the same thing occurs. I get the mini-map on the screen with the 7 Surveyor work panels on the right of the screen. That's it. The Route never comes up and you cant remove the mini-map. The same thing happened when I first started working with the game. This was before any patches. That is why I'm suspicious of the game disk. I had to reloaded the disk before i went through the updates using Shane's list of patches. This has been going on for much too long and I don't know who I can turn to. Is it Auran or N3V? Add to that when your in your 80's money is tight. So you could say I'm in the doghouse as well. To all those how have given advice to Don please note the content of a PM that I have had from him today.

'Thanks for your kind offer. As of 9:00 last night the game appears to be fixed and I'm trying to get my head back to where I was weeks ago. The strange part I don't even know who to thank. Don'

....so on his behalf...Thanks!
