This can't be!

Trainz Ninja
My local EB Games store is telling me that the Trainz series has stopped production and that i can't order it anymore which is complete garbage.
Could some please confirm if this is true or not.
cheers.

Typical EB. Half the time the staff there are utterly clueless and know next to nothing unless you're asking about some big-name title like Call of Duty or Halo. The clerk who told you that was probably thinking of MSTS which indeed ceased production years ago (because Trainz killed it! ;)).

Considering this site (and Planet Auran/DLS etc) is still pretty much active, and 2012 is still very much available for purchase from the site, I think it's pretty safe to say that what you were told is complete rubbish. ;)

I say 'give him the finger' and download your game directly from N3V at a lower price you were going to pay for it in store anyway.

Actually Trainz didn't kill them. MSTS self inflicted its own fatal gun shot wounds with all the new technology that they failed to utilize and their undeniably awful management did them in. I still do have the game but I don't play it. I really want to but don't have the time or the patience to deal with its crap.

MSTS yeah it's still playable. There are many forums active with updated content. MSTS doesnt crapped or killed itself, Microsoft made it, with the unrelease of MSTS 2 and the remove of the team. MSTS haves some good things and a better treatment of the light than trainz, and the sounds, and AI. And if not were of MSTS, wich sim would be the predecesor of Trainz? As before trainz there not were any sim like MSTS, so please before saying that MSTS is crappy and unuseful, think in what were of you without MSTS. And with thinkering of people like you, there wouldnt be updates or use of old games
And sorry for that amount of words, its only an opinion :D

Cheers

Before this turns into an topic about a discontinued product of another company:

To support my own text, look what I found in todays newsletter:
fathers-day.jpg

Skip the shop, get it online for half the price.

Dont get stuck in old habbits or in this case old avatars. No clue why, but I felt the need for a change. Didnt like that 2nd avatar, this one (of which I have no clue what engine it is) also had seen its best time. Time for a new avatar :p.

Trainz 1.0 and MSTS 1.0 were both out at the same time. In fact Auran made a PaintShed add-on to paint (mod) MSTS content. I still have PaintShed for MSTS and a sitting on my shelf along with some awesome payware routes created by Mapleleaf Trains, Rich Garber, and ProTrains.

I agree what really killed MSTS was the lack of follow through with the original product, the lack of real support for the product as in actual patches other than the coupler fix one, and then finally the announcement and creation of vaporware known as MSTS2. Microsoft also disolved the whole gaming group, the guys that brought us MSFlight Sim, MSTS, and other titles. The members of this division, I think were rolled into the Windows 8 development team. Kuju had their own issues which didn't help much either regarding production times and everything else with MSTS2.

Anyway I have no ill feelings towards the MSTS product. I switched to Trainz after I took a look at the old Auran website. I followed the link published on the box, and got reading the forum posts by Greg Lane (the original founder) along with John Banks, and many other long gone good folks. I tried the Trainz demo, which I could barely get to work because my machine would crash, and got hooked on the ease of building routes. MSTS wasn't much better. It would crash randomly during activity editing or route editing which I could never get to work in the first place. By the time my PC was updated, TRS2004 came out, I got that, and have never gone back.

Now regarding EB and GS. They suck for PC games unless they are the most popular such as Warcraft, Unreal, etc. The pimply-faced clerks have no clue about anything else but these titles.
