Hello all,

I have just removed a nasty malware/virus thing from my laptop. Don't ever download a "security program" called Thinkpoint. Its a nasty little bugger. Thinkpoint is a fake spyware removal program which is made to look like its a safe program made by Microsoft.

After a while, it will ask you to pay around $90 for protection, but don't pay it.

Something pops up, or you get an E-Mail, and say's: Microsoft and I have a free Spyware removal tool for you ... and you download it ? Be careful out there. If it is free, or spam, it is probably no good.

What did the the title say on the E-mail, just so folk know what to look out for ?
Rubbish like that usually goes automatic in my junk folder and gets deleted without opening.

Email? I didn't get an email.

What happened to me was my computer crashed, and upon restart the ThinkPoint virus (disguised as a microsoft update for the anti-virus software on my laptop) showed a list of "viruses" on my operating system. Not knowing much about viruses, and clicked "update".

After a quick look on the internet, I discovered Thinkpoint was the virus.

Oh well, I seem to have kept it at bay.

Really why would you download something like that from an email ?????
come on boys and girls smarten up a bit,,its a no brainer,,never open crap like that from emails,at least first go to microsoft and do a search for the software first
and if not by email then what sites are you going to to get that

It wasn't an email, but, yeah, people should be savvy enough not to open those anyway.

A lot of these come as ads serviced through legitimate (haha) ad networks. It's very simple to block ads, which greatly enhances security. a small HOSTS file is one method; AdBlock Plus with an Easylist subscription on Firefox is another.

As steve123 says...don't be caught out. That nasty little bugger nearly caught me, but Microsoft essentials stopped it. I use to have Norton installed, but that got to be a bit heavy on resources.

As I mentioned in a previous post, my computer crashed, and when I restarted it, the ThinkPoint virus said it was a microsoft "security update" that came up on my computer before the logging in screen.

Downloading it was the only option at the time.

How do you use the portals?

sorry this does not have anything to do with your post, I am new here and I am having a problem trying to get a reply to my posts. Can You tell me how to use the portals on Trainz 2006! When my train goes tru the Potals, they do not get anywere from the portals, they just disapear! Hope You can help!

I use Vipre Rescue PC. It has killed 5/5 of the infections so far.

thanks for the heads up,I use trend micro internet security on my computer and it showed no viruses so far,just spyware,still in my opinion,the last thing we need is a lethal virus and other computer hazards including spyware,getting in the way of what brought us here in the first place!
