Another thing I noticed...

I've been fishing alot this summer. And as I drive down the river to get to lake Michigan, I noticed the piles driven in front of the bridge peirs to protect the piers from collision from water craft. I plan on making some of those too. In this photo I'm using my wood piers in a pair reversed. Looks good but it's not right. SO I'll put that on my toodolist.

If it means anything to you, I also am following this project closely. It has been quite the ride so far and am looking forward to seeing more!!! Also, I (and a few friends) too am working with this DEM, just tinkering on a proto/freelanced type of thing so I can appreciate just how much you've done as this DEM is MASSIVE.

Not only is it massive, but I got about 700 intersections and bridges into it, and I deceided two things. #1 to replace everything YARN to Yarnish. #2 to build my own Bridges. Here's my current replacement of the JJS Plate Deck 2 Track. I just now put the finishing touches on it so I can start replacing them on the route. I used Maddy25's Plate Deck Bendy Colors, and also her Sandsone on the piers. I'm a real fan of her work. It will mostl likely be on the Download station with the next batch, hopefully this newer version replaces the one I uploaded yesterday. The enhancement over the origional bridge. all surfaces are painted, and 2 the piers DO NOT FLICKER. I just hat that.

This is an origional model of mine and I highly encourage anybody to reskin this bridge it shouldn't be that hard, just give me a shout out here with a pic. and you'd be good to go. Thanx.

Oh yes and now that the model is basically done. I will come out with a version that has pier protection on the piers in the form of diven piles. Or maybe I'll just make a track attachment that you can snap on the track and move it into position arround the pier...that might be better. That way you could retro your favorite bridge. Another thing missing for this area on the down load station are cribs.

Cribs are a boxes made with railroad ties and rocks. We stick them in the lakes and rivers for docks, and to support power poles crossing long shallow water. You can't do this area without cribs, can't.

See, a few power boats with their drivers full of Barley Pops hit thoses poles, have to go fix the poles. On the other hand they hit a cribbed up pole, they just need a new boat.

It's not a perfect solution but it works. Hover above the bridge track looking down at the road. With the insert spline point in track, make one on one side of the road and see what happens. Sometimes you need 2.

Here, this is for you grab it off the screen and save it in your pics. Warning it's 2 megs. This in a 101 year old map of Marquette which show the Dead River Lumber spur cutting through town from the DSS&A to the LS&I yard. The yard to the top is LS&I, the line along the lake is LS&I. LS&I ran thought the East Yard along the lake and service Coal Transfer and Texaco Oil where the power station is now in Marquette Bay. Dead River Lumber used the DSS&A line up to Bagdad...I'll show that later on when I get there, and LS&I did their hauling.

That Wye down towards the bottom heading south...left...that's the old DSS&A South Main that follows the Carp River for the most part up to Eagle Mills.

Maybe this helps..

This map has the top North.

The line on the left coming in the the LS&I main which you can follow into Babdad which is a cross over with LS&I on top, DSS&A under. Just before Bagdad there is a Wye, that is the LS&I entry back to the Dead River Saw Mill. The return leg of the Wye merges into the DSS&A's North Main back to Marquette via DSS&A North Main to the LS&I Dead River Lumber Branch.

Both tracks then proceed through the Cut at Pine Hill...LS&I heads right into Eagle Mills from there....the Cross is the Morgan Trestle....LS&I over DSS&A. The DSS&A runs away from Eagle Mills toward Negaunee. Notice the Return at Eagle Mills that loops back into the DSS&A line that was there return back to Marquette with Loads from Eagle Mills.

WC tracks....Very cool :Y:

I'm getting to the point with this route where less is more. There is so much going on..if the trees are in the way you can not see it. Back in the day, branch lines were made just to cut trees to fuel the furnaces. There really wasn't, back in the day a tree standing over 4' tall. All that wood was cut and fueled the Furnaces to produce Pig Iron. It was barren, like most of the lower 48 at that time, prior to oil. Truth is logging stopped when every last single tree was cut down.

What's better then a new 2 Track Plate Deck Bridge?

A new Single Track Plate Deck Bridge. This is the Dead River Branch with it's Junction on the old DSS&A's North Main. Gonna upload this too today. It needs it's webbing...I'll get to that one of these days when I get tired of looking at it I guess but I just want to get my bridges replaced right now and I can't wait. Enjoy, re-skin, graffiti....ect, ect. ect. If it makes it easier to graffiti i can create a few graffiti panel locations with my painting of the side walls.

Looks good there M8T :Y:

Well I just reskinned that single track bridge it's darker. Both are uploaded to the download station and approved, be sure and let me know which one you like best. Or I guess i can tell by the number downloaded. I see the Double Track is now on the Download Station. These 2 single tracks should make the next batch.

One other thing that is going on here. I downloaded at Sat Image from google earth of the Empire Mine in Plamer, MI. I got structure details from Photos, and Prints. And I'm in proceess of building the whole dam thing as one Model sitting in the exact place in the landscape. Those big round upright objects sitting over the track are the New and Old Super Pocket Loader. I'm gonna make'm work in Trainz.

Needless to say this one is complex-a-mundo...beyond my skills now...but I'm teaching myself new tricks everyday.

There are some unique stuctures in this model...The conveyor supports for instance are massive just to get a sense of scale. They are proto but not darkly colored enough, and the Conveyor is just one I'd built to show the length of the system. Lota work here.

The Froth Tanks are just as massive and there are 4 Biguns. Compared to Bendorsey's tanks he kindly let me reskin. They'll work too, all of them spinning.
