the really important things in life

For the last several months, I've been waiting for the arrival of TS2010 so that I could continue in this passion of Trainz. I'll even admit that the last few weeks I've been silently cursing the mailman for not delivering it fast enough. :p

Then reality intruded and put things in perspective. First, my wife lost her aunt. The lady was up and about last Sunday morning writing letters, went out for a breath of fresh air and was getting ready to watch some movies with her daughter. Then she coughed, had a heart attack and died. Second, on Christmas eve, my mom collapsed at home, was rushed to the hospital and is now in intensive care (cardiac). She is stable for now but the doctors still testing.

We often make a joke with new Trainzers to forget about friends, family etc. and that Trainz will become an all consuming passion. Let us remember that it is only a joke and should never be taken seriously. Her aunt's family never had a second chance to say "I love you" and I had a warning.

Enjoy Trainz but don't confuse it with the really important things in life. Happy Holidays, no matter which ones you celebrate. :)

Trainz is super fun but life is more important. I'm very sorry to hear about your wife's aunt and your mom. I pray she will be okay and get out of the hospital. I hope 2010 will be a great year for you and your family.

I couldn't agree more. While Trainz is a rather time consuming hobby, along with the forum trying to learn and find content, it is taken way to serious at times. At times I just keep my mouth (or fingers in this case) shut so I don't get banned when people get their panties in a wad over trivial stuff. My condolences to your family, especially having to deal with such hardships at this time of year. I wish the best for your mother. I can't imagine how you must feel at this time.

Very true martinvk. Members Health, Family Heath, Relatives and Friends Health, and Work/Eduction are the really important matters in our lives. Trainz is a great way to relax and enjoy a great Hobby, but it can never replace "true" life matters.

Very sorry to hear of your wife's Aunty martinvk, my condolences to you and your family. I hope your mother starts feeling better soon, its not the time of the year to be facing such a terrible illness.

Hi Martinvk,

And I totally agreed!! Life is tricky like that ... I recall a few years ago, with my uncle -- My other uncle was driving him to the market place, and he then complaint about stomach pains -- they went to the hospital and then minute later he died!

Life really test one's commit -- kicks you down, but hey, you must pick yourself up for those loves around!!

Hope all the best to you, your wife, and family!!

some good news

Thank you for all your good wishes, they are much appreciated.

In the past mom had been given several drugs to control high blood pressure. Well it seems they were too effective. Now that she was in the intensive care unit, everything was being monitored very closely and naturally her drug therapy was stopped. With the drugs being washed out of her system, her heart is now behaving more normally. Even the pace-maker is often not needed to boost her heart. So now she will be under observation for a few more days to confirm the recovery and then they will decide what to do next. :)

Hello Martinvk

I wish her all the best!!! -- I'm 38, and I also take powerful prescription drugs to control my blood pressure, since I have kidney damage ... anyhow, long story short -- I hope she recover very quickly!!!

Damn medications sometimes do more harm then good, but what can we do:( ... while it fixes what we have damaged inside, it also damages other organs which are health!

Sincerely, hope she is well to a fast recovery:wave: --

Lost my mom last year to cancer -- I know how it feels inside!:'(

Sad situations will always arise unfortunately as that is life as they say.

However there are situations where Trainz in a reasonable way is a help to people. I have some permanent illhealth matters which if not properly looked after could lead to something more life threatening. When I can't get out or am in an occasional bit of health problems I have Trainz and routes to work on. Where I can be occasionally limited in many hobbies in life I can manage fine with Trainz. Not that I am housebound but there are times I cannot get out and thank Heavens for Trainz!

It is what you make it and can for some be an escape from pressures or a relaxing way to get by. I doubt very much if there are many who are so fanatical that they would ignore everything for it though. For me it is fun and in a roundabout way, medicinal!

I know what you feel (except for losing your mother). My mother had to have Chemo Therapy, because she had cancer, and she had to take all these different drugs and whatnot to "help" her.
