The long road home

Slave to my route
Hi all, my home has been the NE of Thailand for over 7 years and now it has come time to return to the USA. I'm returning to the east coast of Florida and I'm not sure what to expect being back in the US. My lovely Filipino wife is equally nervous as she has never been to the US.

One thing I am very anxious to do is to rail fan again. FEC runs through town and can't wait to have my wife and young nephew in tow watching some good old American steel rolling by. Another thing I'm happy to read about is that 611 again has a fire in her belly and running excursions. I can't wait for my wife to see a large steam locomotive in action. The railroads here in Thailand are a small, 1 meter gauge I believe and they have very little in variety in their rolling stock. With that being said I was able to catch the Orient Express coming through Bangkok once. Beautiful train and an Englishman that lived in the next village over from where I was a teacher was the train manager on the Orient Express and could tell some wonderful stories of his adventures on that famous train.

So sitting here in the airport I think of some of the things I will miss here in Thailand and it will be mostly my students and the street food. At the same time I think of returning to the wild west and seeing home through fresh eyes. I have Thailand to thank for helping me to discover Trainz in the first place. Being here and missing rail fanning and model railroading Trainz came to the rescue. This forum became and excellent bonus and made Trainz more than just a train sim, but a real hobby in creating routes and sharing them with other members of the forum and using the DLS is like going to the hobby shop. Learning to reskin became a joyful experience and fixing assets a necessary evil, but model railroading had it share of headaches too.

In the few hours I have left in Thailand I check the forum, but I'm guessing my next post will be from the US. So with that I will say see all of you back in the states.

Depends on whether she cooks Thai or Philippine style I guess!

Dave, I wonder how many trainzers we have left in Thailand now? I only know of Joosten up near Sakhon Nakhon and a guy called Illy down in Phuket.

I lived in up-country Thailand for three years in the late 60's. in those three years, I saw it go from the common people not having TV's, to there being TV antennas on top of almost every bungalow! I lived in Takhli the longest. Then it was a mostly innocent and lovely place. There was wonderful Thai music on the radio and the Thais were most friendly and fun-loving.

Probably up country it's still innocent and lovely, but I hear Bangkok has changed now.

Anyway, Four Mod is my favorite Thai girl singing group these days.

Welcome back to the USA Dave. If you ever get to Arkansas, look me up.

Hey Dave looks like your in my part of the U.S. I live not to far outside of James Brown's city Augusta GA where the private and business trains from NS, CSX, and BNSF come for the Augusta National for the PGA tour my home is along the the old central of georgia mainline,

Hi all, I'm finaly checking in :o. Wow a lot has changed here! It's so nice to see blue skies and white fully clouds again. Trying to get life started again here is a real challange and the paperwork required is almost as bad as Thailand. Having a real burger is such a treat and introducing my wife to American food will be fun....I hope ;). The country and me will be having our birthdays this Satarday and seeing a good old prade and fireworks show will be even sweeter after being gone for so long! So hapy 4th of July everyone.
