The greatest additions/revamped workings/changes to Trainz in the last few years

Several things come to mind when I wrote that title.

1. First and Foremost... being able to switch from driver to surveyor and back with just a click or two. This has really made my route building 1000% better!

2. I like the choice of pasting OVER an area or pasting INTO an area. This has been a great addition.

3. Of course, I like the ability to paint grass and weeds and stuff.

4. Speedtrees, Shadows and Reflections. Can't deny these haven't been a wonderful addition.

5. The new Surveyor. I've been shy about diving into this, but I know when I do, I'll love it. All the comments about it here on the forum have been mostly positive.

Just some of my thoughts...

We can add in the tool we all can't live without:

The Bulk Update Replace tool.

We can update most anything and now with the more recent feature since TRS19, the ability to place textures under splines. This makes adding ballast under tracks much easier.

You're darn right!

I agree with the examples given.

The new capabilities in Surveyor 2.0 contain some of my favorites:
1. Being able to select a group of objects/splines and moving the entire group to a different location, even if it's just 3m to the right. What a time-saver.
2. Unlimited size of terrain/texture tool.
3. Scrapbook, although there are some enhancements needed to make it easier to find scrapbook items.

Absolutely!

The ability to create or delete multiple baseboards too is a real timesaver. We have to remember to select and delete the contents first due to pieces being left over only to float in space forever.

Is it a timesaver?

With all of the new complex functions in "trainz" the previous message illustrates a missing element in the program. Warnings and suggestions that if you do step-A there could be consequences, and here is the proper process. Consequences of mistakes are often not immediately known. Later in your process you hit a big issue and its solution is a mystery. The customer's only recourse is to spend time trying various steps or coming to the forum and relying on the experiences of its members to offer a solution. A simple warning message would save a customer lots of their precious time.. It is called Error and Warning messages, Costly programming time with no way to reveal any "dollar benefit". How much does it cost for a "Did You Delete Baseboard Contents?" message??

Sounds like a simple error message routine but consider all the possible consequences, not just one step later but many steps later. And then all the time needed to click through all those "are you sure" warnings. We've got a pretty good undo now so if the action was not too far in the past, it can still be undone if needed.

Yes, the ability to undo deleted baseboards too in Surveyor 2.0 is a really added bonus.

Hey Dave, I don't know if this will work for you but approach medium did a youtube video recently using the newish surveyor 2.0 and for whatever reason watching him using and going over the reasoning during the video really clicked something for me and I now love using it. I really struggled prior to that trying to use it. If you decide to jump it you might give that video a shot.

When I re-installed TRS2019 ( after that big episode of uninstalling TANE) I got Surveyor 2.0 also. The desktop Icon of TRS2019 says 2022. I don't know what's going on with that, but Uninstalling TANE really gave me a ton of headaches. That's why I started that post "Don't Uninstall TANE."

Geez, unfortunately when I try to look up BUILD numbers, I get VERSION numbers. Even the wiki doesn't give actual BUILD numbers. Not helpful!

But the installers I have indicate TRS19 Platinum SP4 was 114800 and of course SP5 is 117009.

I did find that 116492 is a TRS22 build There is a wiki page, but not the one you get if you google:

TRS22 - Trainz Railroad Simulator 2022 and Trainz Plus

Trainz Railroad Simulator 2022 & Trainz+
The following builds exist for TRS22 and Trainz Plus. Where patches are available, these are noted beside the build number.

Build NumberPatches availableBuild description
Build 115628auto-patch to 116492Beta release version (Windows)
Build 115635Standard Edition version (MAC)

Here is what I have in my note file. I don't guarantee it accurate. It unedited straight from my own notes.
LINKS won't work. They are links to the "release post" in the beta forums. I didn't code them for this post but I have them if needed. (or search forum for the build number in beta forums)

I Have 123315 which is not listed. It is titled as Trainz+. with the Trainz+ title page.
No update is available according to the installer.
I have had one update to it, in the past.
It runs routes ok.
Given its odd status I am concerned that even removing it might
have extended effects.

123315 is a beta version of Trainz Plus. The term RELEASE ASSERTIONS appears in front of the build number indicating that it is a beta. The wiki does not list the betas, only the retail releases.

I have to say, and this is a tough one, I've got to hand it to parallax textures. As someone who jumped from using T:ANE to TRS22 I was shocked by how much the parallax textures improved the routes I used. It just brings a level of realism that wasn't present before.
