The ghost trains

Interesting short movie to watch.

How funny to see that good old bureaucracy keeps the lines open :hehe:.

I recall that the old direct route from Cleethorpes to Sheffield (via Barnetby, Brigg, Gainsborough and Retford) had become a 'ghost' service after BR tried and failed to close it years ago. Only one train a week apparently.

I've just checked the latest timetable and, surprisingly, there are now 3 trains each way between Cleethorpes and Sheffield, but only on Saturdays! What on earth is the point of that? I'm almost tempted to give this service a go (changing on to it from Kings X at Retford) - it would beat the horror of Doncaster!

Paul

EDIT: I've checked further and there's absolutely no connectivity whatsoever between these trains and other services, eg. if you want to change at Retford from London. So, very much 'ghosts' in the sense that they don't really connect with anything else. How can anyone justify running trains that have no purpose?!
