The future

"Use of the ignore button may be questionable if you want to change people’s behaviour"

Over at trainsim.com I'm a moderator, so the ignore feature is disabled for me since changing people's behavior is my job. Over here I'm not a moderator, so I'm not responsible for other people's behavior nor am I authorized to tell other members how they should behave.

Frankly, every time ONE flamewar starts or someone is thinking about some previous flamewar, we get one of these "This community is going to the dogs, it's the end of the world" threads at trainsim.com and UKtrainsim.com. Despite all those threads over the last decade, both websites are still around.

How was it ruined?

Did model railroading die because the H.O. scalers bashed the N scalers but joined forces once the O scalers piped up?

One thing in common here is a like of train simulations, particularly Trainz. One thing not in common is what version you use or how you spell or........ Human nature is kicking in here. We are all going to hell in a bucket because of spelling, you use 04, I use 10 and on it goes. None of which have anything to do with what these forums are for, train simulation. To busy with pet peeves with little regard to those who actually post in here or the subject matter that built this forum to begin with.

You posted your concerns. Others have as well. None of which have anything to do with the subject at hand, train simulation. The very post that started this has nothing to do with that subject. More like a "I don't like this" rant.

Sorry if I sound harsh, don't mean to, not my intention and you have my apologies if you take my comments this way. You have VERY valid points open for discussion. If posting what I think on top of what you think ruins a thread you should never have posted to begin with seeing as you are looking for consensus rather than discussion. Which puts your thread dead into the what you are complaining about category.

Dave.....

It's the end of the world!

There you go, I believe we have found the problem - any opinion that don't agree 100% with his philosophy is total garbage, therefore the solution is to change the forum rules so that nobody is allowed to post anything that 7121239 don't like.

I agree that this forum should be about train simulators, and Trainz in particular, not about a lot of other nonsense. As in most social gatherings, however, there are some who can't resist the allure of pontificating on other topics, usually social and/or political. Use of the ignore function is a cop-out. I can ignore people quite well without using a virtual button. :D

And if you don't like what someone is saying...just tell 'em. That's what I do.

Cheers,
Fred
