The future

Sniper, that method entails remembering the name not easy at my age.

There is a quicker way, click on the username - add to buddy list, in the resulting window select the name, click on 'ignore list' and copy to the ignore entry box then save that list, not the buddy list.

It would be better if it had been programmed but we can't have everything.

You got 24 years on me, and it ain't easy at MY age either. CTRL C then CTRL V also works, click and drag to highlight the name, CTRL C, move to the user control panel CTRL V, away we go. Tolerance is actually simpler, just skip past the ones wiht por spelign adn punkchooayshun. As me sainted Mum used to say, "Let the whirling dervishes whirl". :hehe:

A two page bash fest on a user to find out he was Autistic.

Didn't see that one but can kind of understand, as I have Aspergers which is a sort of High Functioning Autism, "HFA", and anything new, or different, or not well understood on the first attempt, can cause overwhelming anxiety pretty fast.
Toss in Bipolar, and Neuropathy as added bonuses at no extra charge and life can get rather interesting at times.

Maybe it is because of the above that the spelling thing gets to me. First thing noticed when reading a post is anything which is misspelled; and, it is distracting enough that the message may get lost.
With computer things like Firefox having check spelling as you type functions the only excuse for incorrect spelling is laziness.

Then I begin to wonder, if this person is so careless about the details of spelling is he or she going to be just as careless with the directions they might be given how to do something in response to their inquiry?
And if they are so careless with that, what else are they careless with?

Because of the Neuropathy, some days the fingers don't move quite exactly the way the brain is telling them to and without the spelling thing in Firefox I would become one of the people I talk about! :hehe:

There are days like today where the brain just won't focus enough the right way to use Trainz but will still read the words on pages like this one.

Okay, time to end this before I start rambling all over the universe.

Ol Salts

I do not know if I fit in this group, but I have seen many changes to this forum and the so called game (The hobby is ours, not Auran's)! I too find these forums ery un-interesting compared to how they used to be. Not many subjects interest me enough to even open a thread anymore! As for 2010 only users, let them have thier space and likewise for the rest of us. used to be a division for versions here, but even the forum itself has changed for the worse in my opinion. In a day, those 2010 users will have someone else feed them that same as they try to feed those that came before them, thats just the way of life's cycle. What other people do will only bother you if you let it!

Prior to that we made do with the rather primitive graphics of Railsim (the original German one), Train Driver 3, Mechanik or a complete absence of graphics in Simudrive and the SIAM driving sims. (Or the Ashley Green "Cab View Driver" with its use of shaky video clips).

Don't be forgetting Hewson's "Southern Belle" on the Spectrum... Hehe.

Hey All

Trainz like everything else in the World seems to change on an almost daily basis. That doesn't mean it's any worse or better, it just changes like everything else.

Cheers :)

Good morning everyone.

Some interesting thought provoking comments in this thread.

Use of the ignore button may be questionable if you want to change people’s behaviour. I only discovered how this feature works a couple of days ago when I noticed I was missing some posts in a thread. I had never used the ignore feature, so it appears that someone has put me on their ignore list (2 found so far), and by so doing it also appears that I cannot see any of their postings.

Is this the way it works? A pointer to a tutorial/thread on how this functions would be helpful please.

If I’m right, then the offenders will never see how the more eloquent contributors (who “ignore”) place their posts. They won’t be able to, “watch and learn” – which is what a lot of this forum is about, not just for modelling, but perhaps for communication skills as well.

Cheers
Casper
(Not expecting any replies – probably on all of your ignore lists!)

As THE former trainz mariner still look in to see if somehow I could start using Trainz again for my interests...but complexity and not user friendly as regards the content creation simply phased me out, downsized and made redundant.(smile).... Retired anyway for a few years, and spent too many years pondering on object content creation and ever changing configurations.

User friendly is fine even if my sailing ships ran on fixed tracks through the docks of c1800 and my horses had stiff legs pulling the barges along the canals. Trainz has a very versatile scenery editor but feel that there were many more options that could have been utilised and not impinging on the the train aficionados "as it is a train simulator you", if the user friendly approach had of continued as regards content creation.

Only use Blender anway and even that seems to have increased complexity with 2.5 version and doubt if I will continue with it. Barry the redundant ex trainz mariner and at present abandoned all simulators and content creation.

P.S. You can add 2009 to the list in the heading but only used once and never bothered to register it.

Hiballer and I have just tested the ignore list facility and it does not work as you suggest, I put him on my list and could not read his posts but he could still see and read mine.

I would have hoped that the ignored posts were totally invisible but they are not, there is still a placeholder reminder.

Peter's right, Casper. Even though I was on his 'hit list' I could still read his posts just fine. Actually, I prefer a placeholder instead of a complete ignore. If/when things calm down, I might want to be reminded that this person is still on my list - and possibly remove it.

@ Highballer & narrowgauge

Good evening gentlemen.

Thanks for testing this - I wasn't expecting you to go to all this trouble.

Something strange is happening here then.

I wrote a PM to the member in question two days ago, concerned that I may have caused offence in some way.

No answer as yet, even though the person concerned has been in the active listings at the foot of the main screen, albeit fleetingly. Guess I just need to be patient.

It could just be that I've not fully understood how this all works. I've never bothered with the ignore/buddy functions since becoming a member. Is there a tutorial or thread somewhere - I've looked on search but cannot find anything.

Placeholder is a totally new one on me!

Guess I need to look and try a bit harder - when I can tear myself away from world building and modelling!

Hi, Casper. The term 'place holder' actually means (in the case of this forum) that there is a header, with the username right where it should be, but the text of the post is something like "((username))'s post cannot be seen because this person is on your ignore list". Words to that effect.

EDIT: Just noticed that I hit 1,000 posts with this one!! Whoopie!

Many thanks to all who have contributed to this thread. It has been a really worthwhile experience reading all the content and views of so many and is the kind of response which used to make this Forum special. I'm sure it can be again with such friendly, informative and interesting contributions.
I noted one comment earlier on in the thread, regarding the point that it is not always possible to know the exact circumstances of posters to whom you are responding, with regard to spelling etc.
Not that it makes any difference in how I would respond to any post, but wouldn't it be great if more members were more open about themselves and let us know a little more about themselves. ( use of the word 'more' too often eh!).........
I moderate a musical forum and often find myself having to admit a new member to the group on the minimum of information - a bit of a gamble I sometimes think, but what can you do if that is all the information you are presented with.........
Anyway, many thanks once again.

Best Regards to all,

Ian

..........I saw creators bashed as incompetent and the name Luddite thrown around, and that wasn't the only one. What ever it took to quiet the people who weren't happy with the new release. Never seen that with any other release.

Same questions over and over. ......

Dave......

I had to chuckle when I read this Dave. Apparently you weren't around when 2006 and CMP were unleashed upon the Trainz world. Phrases like 'sunshine blower' and curios like CJLear's TRS2004 "fist of fury" sticker come to mind. It was all very much the same conversation, different products.

Ah - those were the days. I grew my hair long, platted my beard, smoked assorted vegetable matter and thought TRS04 was the greatest thing since sliced bread. It was too.

Now of course I don't smoke or drink, I wear my hair (what there is of it) short and trim my beard nice and neat. Confirmed TS2010 convert....

Everything old is new again...

Andy :)

Dino,
I just caught the tail end of it. It was as stupid then as it is now. A bunch of people sitting around playing with virtual choo choo trains ripping on each other based on what version of that same choo choo train software they are using. Sad, very sad.

Dave....
