Some further information on the lesser - but still potent - GTX 1070 is available too:

This is going to be a great year for GPUs, with AMD bringing out their Polaris-based next-gen architecture in the next month or so and later on the even more powerful Vega GPUs.

Have just seen the pre-order price of the Asus GTX 1080 Founders Edition 8GB, £620 (UK) ouch, I'm not sure my whole 6700/970 rig cost that. Peter

I'm expecting that we'll pay an exorbitant 'premium' price here in Aotearoa (NZ) too - well over and above the flat NZD/USD currency exchange rate as usual.
My usual vendors are all announcing significantly lower sales prices for the GTX 900 series ahead of the impending 1000 series launch though, so this will provide an opportunity for some to acquire the previous gen cards at the best prices yet.

The first leaked performance tests for the GTX1070 indicate performance levels 5 to 10% faster than the current GTX 980Ti, and ~1.8X the performance of a GTX 970 - so that will represent an interesting pricing conundrum for many suppliers as the non-'Founders Edition' MSRP price of $379 is considerably less than current prices for GTX 980 Tis.
