I figure a general enquiry would be good.
I've recently been doing some test driving on my new route which I have been building and I am struggling with some british steamers. Namely, the Stanier 5MT and the BR Britannia. The locomotives operate incredibly sluggishly when I first load up the session, utterly refusing to go any faster than 5mph WITHOUT any loads.
Then, when I stop the engines, leave it for about ten seconds and then start again, they haul away as if nothing was wrong.
I am aware of the usage of the Regulator, Cutoff, brakes and various other steam terminology, but this is baffling me.
Smaller steam locomotives such as the Aspinall, the Fowler 3f and 4f don't seem to suffer from this problem.
And yes, I have remembered to release the brake. :hehe:
If anyone could give some advice, that would be great. The track at the moment is still on a 0% gradient for most of the tests, though I've sweated a bit when I tried the Kirby Mountain climb, a 5 mile climb up a 2.5% gradient with a 400T load.
Thanks everyone.
