For work reasons, I was recently sent to Joplin, Missouri. By complete coincidence, I had been modelling a number of buildings in nearby Bolivar, Missouri for Derrick Ricketts' Frisco High Line layout. So in the free time left when my work was done, I drove up to Bolivar and actually found the 3 buildings I had modelled. It was just so wierd to see them in real life, since up until then I'd only seen them in pictures.

Last Friday in front of the Standard Oil depot...sorry for the 'drowned rat' look but it was bucketing down at the time.

The area hit by the tornado still looked like an atomic bomb site to me Ed, but this was the first time I'd seen it so I can't say what progress has been made in the last year. On the weekend the photos were taken, the weather service was issuing '90% chance of tornado' warnings for neighbor state, Kansas, so people in Joplin were certainly on edge.
 
I have to admit, at first, that I had difficulty distinguishing between the model and the prototype. Very nice!

It is always amazing to see what some people are capable of creating. And then to see them side by side with the prototype . It's almost tempting to complain that the original is not as good as the model. Congratulations.
 
Dean are you planning to come to Thailand anytime soon? We should have a beer and hang out i mean have good food and talk trainz like old fisherman have a cold beer and huge fish almost caught. Love your stuff and have a thought!

Arraial could you morph Dean's body and texture onto the police or military guy you did a while ago walking around and make Dean immortal in trainz?!!! I wuld love to put him into my favorite route spots peeking around the corner and say pikkaboo:p

Great stuff Deane! This is probably one of the most satisfying moments I've ever had with Trainz! Seeing someone from another hemisphere take so much pride in the the same, old, drab structures I do. Then traveling from that other hemisphere to actually reach out and touch them.

It doesn't get any better than that!

Edit: What happened to the pic of you in front of the old Standard Oil depot?
 
okidoki let me know in time so we can plan something extravaganca and show you the real thailand few people/tourist get to see... Lookin forward to it, Ning says hello and will spoil you with the best thai food in the region.

A remarkable piece of modelling Deane.

I’ve been scrutinising the perspective angles of all of the appendages and other bits like the oil tank and sliding door at the end of the seed house. Total fault free perfection!

Did you have to ask the owner to open that door to match the model prior to taking the real image, or is it always left open?

A great illustration of how fortunate, and possibly unique, Trainz is to have such talented builders of such great past, present and hopefully many more future assets.
