Thank You Forum

I've had TRS2006 (as the first and only) for 6 months now. I've gone through my generous share of mishaps, mistakes, errors, rebuilds etc etc, ending up in a total re-install as of today.

I'd have to say, that any other software behaving like Trainz, would have long since landed in my trash bin. But I'd also have to say, that the amount of fun and joy I have with this software, keeps it on my PC and keeps me coming back for more (problems and all).

Most importantly, I would not be where I'm at today (where ever that may be), and would have never solved all my problems, had it not been for the support, help, advice, pointers and so on, that I have received from many many a helpful Trainzer on this forum! Without this forum, I think a huge chunk of Trainz-CDs would end up in the garbage.

Thank you one and all

Viewing some numbers I have come to a conclusion that really makes one sad.

There are over a million copies of Trainz sold according to Tony Hilliam. These froums have about 250,000 people registered of which 3000 people are active on the forums. Lets say that every year has 3000 unique forums user. This means that since 2001 there have been some 21,000 "unique" active members on these forums.

Of course quite a number of people have bought more then one version which brings the number of "unique" buyers down. So lets assume there have been 250,000 unique buyers of which less then 10% have found there way to the desparate needed help to get the software to work properly. I wonder what the other almost 230,000 people have done with their copies.

It would be interesting to know whether all those 'not forum users' have error free working copies? I sincerally doubt that.

I have not seen a poll from Tony Hilliam researching this, have you?

Okay... what was the point of that? This is a thank you to the forums thread, not a wail about errors in Trainz thread.

@jytte: good to hear that you've had a good experience here despite people who decide to be pessimistic and off-topic in threads.

I'm not so sure that zwabberaar is off topic.
I think this is an important point being made, not whining.
What really happens to all the people that buy Trainz (whatever version), and never show up in forum? Naturally there are people that just don't use forums, people that "just drive" in Trainz (and that works most of the time), and then there's probably a large amount of people that just give up. We'll never know the numbers on this.
My point (apart from thanking the people that help) is, that without the forum, Trainz wouldn't do so well. Auran needs to be aware of this (as I'm sure they must be). More important even: new Trainz users should be aware of this. I imagine there are newbies out there that give up, when all they need to achieve the full enjoyment of this package, is to come here and learn.

Your welcome Jytte, Not that I have provided any help...but your welcome :)

Hello ICE,
must admit, I cannot remember any and all that helped by name, but that doesn't matter. Tons of people, you included, have helped, even if they didn't reply directly to a question of mine, because I've read so many threads on so many subjects (by God knows how many people), and that all was a part of guiding me om my quest:D

Even the so-called "whining" threads, that offer no answers to anything, are helpful in the respect that they offer the comfort of knowing that "I'm not the only idiot who can't figure this out", and that is good to know, when you're frustrated.

There are other forums and information sources where people can get help if they need it as well of course.

It could also be that these 'other' users are capable of using the search function, find the answer to their question and go away happy never having felt the need to start a thread on the forum.

The more casual buyers may use it for a few weeks and then move onto the next new game they buy and not be bothered about wringing every last ounce of what they can get out of Trainz.

Actually getting out to shows and meets and talking to real people face to face about their experience is a little different to glancing through a forum mostly containing people who need assistance.

In fact, all in all, it appears there may be a few more 'shades of grey' than you first thought in your black and white analysis.

Mike.

Mike.

My analysis has as much to do with reliable information as yours and is therefore equally black or white. So what point are you trying to make? That you are just biased because I post this? That is okay because I am biased towards you as well, it is just not very smart to use fictional info to counter fictional data Mike ... makes you look rather "grey"

I'm not sure I understand this correctly, but has it been suggested that a poll should be put on the forum to ask those who aren't coming why they aren't coming?

I'm confused.

Zwab,

Your ambitions of becoming a Mod, have in my opinion taken your reasoning abilities to a totally different plateau ?

My point is, that you asked the question "It would be interesting to know whether all those 'not forum users' have error free working copies?"

And I answered by pointing out that there were a number of reasons why any assumption (your word BTW) taken from the number of forum postings may not have lead to a full and accurate picture of the situation.

I thought that as you were interested enough to ask the question you may be interested enough to hear what my, what is it now, 6 or 7 years of experience talking to people on this forum, other forums, chat rooms, meetings, shows and community events had given me.

Obviously not, you were just after scoring a cheap shot as usual. I apologise for interupting you.

In future I probably will not bother.

Hmmm ... I see you have no problem calling my opinion based on the numbers available here "black-white", but when I call your opinion based on a few personal experiences and meetings throughout the years, which in no way comes close to a statistical valid number equally black and white, I am just scoring a cheap point. Now that is not fair is it?

You disappoint me Mike with this arguing attitude and I get the feeling that the only thing you really try to achieve is to have me get angry at you and that I will start calling you names and get banned for it ;)

Will not happen my hugable friend because you are to dear to me.

You are entitled to think anything you want of me. I also don't mind being interrupted because I too need a good laugh at times and I have to admit that reading your posts always makes me smile and makes me see the sun break through the darkest clouds.

I hope you have a very good night's rest and that you will wake up tomorrow with birds singing and the bees buzzing.

Geeeze fellars,

This was just a thank-you note, a friendly pointer to any real new newbies, and maybe even a little hint to Auran.

Can we please NOT turn this into yet another fistfight?

Having read the above replies to a very simple Thank you..No wonder people do not contribute to the forum..L

Yeah Buddy...it's a tough crowd around here...this ain't no "Weenie Hut Jr." forum we got going. Anyway, to the "O.P."; you're welcome, and I'm sure you give back when you're able.

Heck yes, Z went "off-topic," what do you expect?...and why pay attention to z?

 Hello jytte, I agree, totally!

With no apology!

Even when things go wrong, I have usually had a great time, and most of the time, I was the cause of the mistake!

Study the material give, and practice, any you can "go anywhere you wish, with Trainz!"

TRAINZ RULES!
