Hello!
I have noticed that, every time I import content into Trainz+ (133110), a texture file is created for each texture.

What is the purpose of this?

Is it a new feature? These files don't appear in the Retail version
We don't normally see .texture files. These are a proprietary binary compressed file used by Trainz that contain the image and the parameter texture.txt file.

These files appear when a built-in asset has been opened for editing. Since these are an internal file format, they can cause an error in Content Manager when built-in assets are imported after they have been opened for editing.

When non-built-in are opened for editing, Content Manager will decompress the .texture files and expand out the image, usually a .tga or .png file, plus it's descriptor.

Not new, Been around since the switch to the E2 engine I believe.
Older than that. .texture files have been around since Trainz was created. We encounter these when old built-in assets are opened for editing and modified or downloaded from third-party websites. PEV's Images2TGA will convert the .texture files to the individual .tga and texture.txt files. This comes at a cost though due to the .texture compressing the textures. As you are aware, compressed textures can become degraded if decompressed.
