Terminus Operations with the AI

Hi Mick

If you delete the first train and its commands does the second train work properly? I sometimes get trains stuck when programming SCS2006 and its usually because some other train still has control of a junction thus preventing the signal from clearing.

Thanks for the suggestions. Inexplicably, when I went back to trying the route again after a break of a few days, the second train did behave properly. Why, I have no idea.:confused: Things are improving, but I am becoming more interested in SCS2006. Will SCS work with TC3?

Hi again

Yes SCS2006 works well with both TC3 and TS2009. I've never had any problem with it in either version (I am assuming you meant SCS2006 and not SCS which I believe is for TRS2004).

Yes, that's what I meant.:) I have it installed and it's working fine. Just an issue with built-in content, which I've started another thread about. And the really annoying thing with the color scheme in TC3, where you get black text on a dark red background. It's almost unreadable!

"Hands-off" in SCS2006?

I seem to remember that in SCS2006 you have to drive the trains yourself. Is this correct, because if so there's no point in my going on with it, as I want my sessions to be "hands-off". Can anyone confirm this?

1. Mike 10 replied to a similar query re background colour to the effect that problem was due to the creator's use of html. By the way - my query re "emit train rule background" has been cured in the S&C addon:)

2. I have run SCS2006 in er, 2006 using the normal Driver Schedule.

I have not used SCS in TC3.

Yes you can run SCS2006 as a fully automated scenario and just sit and watch the trains go by. Over the past few months I have been programming the Carlisle area on the S&C in TS2009 to run parts of the 1957 working timetable with trains running to the WCML and Maryport & Carlisle as well as the S&C and I just sit and watch them run. Carlisle has proved ideal for this as in steam days many trains changed engines there which adds a lot of interest to the scenarios.

While it is possible to program one long scenario to run for as long as you want I have found it impractical to program scenarios for longer than 2 or 3 hours. Remember that each time you add a train to the scenario you have to run the whole thing through at some point as a train which runs fine on its own may have problems when interacting with everything else that is running at that time. There is also a limit to the number of threads that can be run in a scenario which I believe is 64. I have found ways to increase the number of trains that can be run within this limitation and can explain them to you if you ever reach the limit.

The time that I have spent learning SCS2006 has proved to have been well invested and I have still only explored a small part of what can be achieved with it. If you do decide to give it a go and run into any problems just post on here or on the TPR forum for SCS2006 and I or someone else will help.

Thanks for the info and encouragement. I've started with the demo route Mike's Branchline but I have a silly problem. I don't have the loco BR Class 37 Blue that is used. (I have plenty of similer locos) So I don't know where to plce them initially on the route. I thought I could work it out but the session doesn't start. If anyone knows where the two locos should be placed I'd appreciate it.

Hi Mick

Open the Path Set Demo in Surveyor and navigate to the main station. Add 2 of the TC3 class 37s as follows.
Place the first one at trackmark Habrigberry Branch Up and the second one at trackmark Harigberry Loop Up.

Open up the SCS rule and look for "Edit list of trains added in Surveyor".

Open this up and click on "BR Class 37 blue 3". This should bring a box up and you should select the first of the two consists in the box and then close the box. Next click on "BR Class 37 blue 4" which will bring up the same box again. Select the other loco and then close the box and exit the SCS2006 rule. As I have the original locos installed I don't know if these names or the code will appear in the SCS rule for you - if that is the case click on the lines at the side of train 1 and train 2. If none of this shows post back and I'll try to find a work around.

As the Path Set Demo is write protected you will have to save it with a new name - I just added a 1 to the end of the name. Go into driver making sure that you select the new version and it should run. If it doesn't run check that there are no missing dependencies. I have one missing but it still runs ok.

Excuse me i'm new to Trainz, but I would like to have few questions. The thing is that when I want to make station with platform ( 350 m platform for example), then there is no option for passengers to go out or come in to train.
Same problem is with Terminus Station and few more stations.

Welcome to Trainz and the forum.

First let me say that is usually better to start a new thread for you question than to post in one to which your question is not relevant. Before you do post it's always worth using the forum search facility to see if the answer to your question is already there. But don't worry we all had to learn!

Progress and problems with KX Project

With a lot of help from several people (you know who you are:) ) I'm progressing somewhat with the Kings Cross project. I have overcome the problem of a relief engine backing up to a consist through signals by using the DCC commands from Atilabarut. But the relief engines are incapable of navigating through junctions to get to trackmarks. They just get completely lost. Could it be that the junctions are too close together? Is this an issue? I see that in other routes such as S&C evertything is very spaced out, and in this route I am actually cheating as well. If I were adhering to the actual track layout of Kings Cross, the junctions would be even more squished together.
This is rather discouraging, as all the esoteric stuff works OK but basic navigation is a disaster. Any thoughts anyone?

I think that junction spacing is a problem (this is a subjective view) but I have changed spacings on my routes to help the AI.

I have also found that setting the default direction of the points (with the three pronged tool) can also work against the AI - almost as if the point is fighting the AI to go back to default direction. That said I am using Andi Smiths animated points, not "normal" points.

Might be worth trying invisible signals between the junctions to see if that helps - it's just a trial and error job as to how many and where.

Also might be worth experimenting with some intermediate trackmarks and "drive via trackmark" commands to help guide the AI driver (reduces the available "decisions" for the AI to get wrong).

The closer junctions are together should not effect the way the engine works, but it does if other trains may control one or more of these junctions in some way or a path the junction might set has. That being the case your engine will seek other ways around that junction. As itareus said try and help it a bit with trackmarks
