Telling the DLS where to go

If I am browsing the the DLS pages and want to download something, since I have both TS12 and TANE on my machine now, how do I point the download to the game I want it installed on?

Good question. I also would like to know.

And also be aware that content made and uploaded through T:ANE does not appear on the DLS web pages.

I believe ShaneTurner made a utility to point downloads to a user-selectable installation of Trainz. I don't know if that has been updated to accommodate T:ANE, yet, but it may be worth a try. It should be on his website.

I haven't yet got a T:ANE specific version, but I am working on it. It's going to be a separate program though due to the loss of the source data for the older version.

Use CM to copy to a specific version to Trainz

If I am browsing the the DLS pages and want to download something, since I have both TS12 and TANE on my machine now, how do I point the download to the game I want it installed on?

I usually accomplish this task in the following steps:
  • While in your browser on the DLS, copy the KUID of the asset you wish to download.
  • Open which ever version of Trainz will be the target, and go into Content Manger.
  • Select "assets on DLS" and "not installed" as a filter, and then add the KUID as an additional filter.
  • Select Download when the asset is displayed in CM.

This method is not "automagic" from the DLS, but works for me every time.

In the old days, the version of CM you had open would download from the 'black pages' and you were advised not to have multiple versions of CM from different builds open at once. I'm not sure if the black pages work with TANE, so if you want to download to there you need to work direct from TANE CM.

For me, the online DLS always asked where to save the files. So all my downloads not done through CMP are saved in a folder entirely separate to my installations, from which I just drag and drop the CDPs in to Trainz..
