Tainz Railroad Simulator 2026

Is it TRS26 or TRS19 sp14?
Always looking out for improvements and testing them if I can

Looking out for these things:
-Rain on Cab windows, the moon, nightmode for splines
-Schedules that come from PassengerTLR, that you can see in a cab.
-Support for multitrack stations/industries without rescripting them
-Digholes with more precision (erasing texture)
-Seamless borders between HD and 5/10m baseboards
-A better builtin viewer.
-More userfriendly restoring backups, replace missing assets.
-Multimonitor support.
-Increase of the .CDP format or just use .zip

Enjoy Trainz and merry Christmas all :-)

Did this appear in the newsletter? My email doesnt seem to give me the newletters anymore. If this is true, then 2026 should be an intresting year for trainz...

Trees and other scenery objects are decimated and distilled down to simple images requiring very little processing compared to actual meshes. The system works but has issues right now with lots of stutters and poor performance when there are a lot of objects and trees, although the performance is a bit better in this beta version compared to the previous one.
So like in the early 2000s when trees were like a cross (from the top view) looking semi 3d object ?
Hmm...

Advanced catenary support...
Extended procedural track support...
Tons of script improvements for signalling...

Okay, I won't dream anymore...:rolleyes::(

On that I agree, but to fully implement this it would be needed to make a complete spline behaviour overhaul (like for example having the possibility to edit capping meshes as a scenery object among others)...
The second one too it's been a decade since it was introduced and there's still no possibility to make diamond crossings, slip-switches or swingnose crossings and also the fact that it gets wonky if the curve has a radius over a kilometer (especially for superelevation)...

But yeah a man can dream.

No, the imposter system takes a realtime snapshot of 3D tree and make a 2D tree from it. That 2D tree then rotates to always keep the tree facing the camera. This is done at a certain distance from the camera. The system also works with other 3D objects like buildings. One problem I can foresee is if the object has very aggressive LODs then it might drop down to a low poly object before the snapshot is taken. For me it works fine but I use a very short draw distance of 5k to 8k.

Not having DLS assets labelled as "Payware" or "Packaged" would be nice
I have no issues with assets being labelled as "Packaged" or Payware".

The status column in Content Manager indicates, amongst other things, the source of the asset. Having "Packaged" and "Payware" labels on assets is important information. "Packaged", for example, indicates that the asset is (or should be available) on the DLS and has been included in DLC package that you have installed. If you already had the original DLS asset then it was overwritten with the version contained in the DLC package. Note that the DLC version is not identical because it has been optimised to be included in the package. Likewise, "Payware" simply means that the asset is part of a DLC download but is not available as freeware.

In my experience, problems arise when the DLC package creator (they decide what is to be in the package) includes freeware assets, those that will be labelled as "Packaged" but are not on the DLS. Sometimes this is an oversight on their behalf, other times it could be because they only want the asset to be available in the package (then why do they not label it as "Payware"?) and I am sure there are other possibilities.

I think Pendolino is referring to assets that are or were on the DLS but then get packaged into something and are no longer available. To that I would add the rash of recent "upversioning" of common DLS assets that all of a sudden have a version showing as unknown in newer routes being uploaded. It makes the routes no good to anyone except those who have the magic upversioned asset.(s)

That's exactly my point!

In the best case, in order to get a "Packaged" asset you end up having to download several routes you are not interested in just to have a trash bin that has been available for decades on the DLS. Now, I love almost everything that moves on rails and I have no issue downloading routes from Alaska to Australia, but I think most users do not share such a broad view (or are not maniacs like myself).

With "payware" assets, you would be forced to purchase some routes you are not interested in, just to get that same trash bin.

As regards to the "optimized" assets taken from the DLS (or from third-party websites, without asking the authors  ) and labelled as "Packaged", I would like to know what kind of optimization process they have been through: as far as I have been able to see, they are 100% identical to the previous versions, apart from increasing the version index and packaging the textures into the TEXTURE format.

I have not got my email working for the last period. Is there an announcement about TRS 2026?
Well, they did not actually technically announce a new version, but yes, I got an email on the 23rd of December that said "Our small studio is hard at work preparing new products, DLC and feature updates coming your way in 2026 and beyond." There followed a "sneak peak" of a long list of "things to look out for". The words "in 2026 and beyond", leaves quite a bit of leeway timing-wise, and does not actually commit to the whole list coming out at once.

Exactly, so we still are left with the understanding that if it isn't in Trainz Plus first, it isn't going to find itself into a new retail version. At this moment we know that Trainz Plus has the imposter system, the new PF tree support and TLR at least in a usable if still beta form. Features such as the new lighting system have not yet been seen by us but are under development we believe.

This is actually a bug in the content management system that was pointed out to Paul Olsen by Roy Joosten and me when TANE first came out. Roy ran into some assets that were in packages that were of a higher revision than the ones that one of his routes called for. We tried and tried to explain to Paul that this is a bug, and we were told there is nothing wrong with the system. The bug still exists.

The other thing is according to N3V, assets that are on the DLS that are packaged should still be available to download. Zec told us to report any that aren't on the DLS via the helpdesk and they'll take care of that.

Have you used the "Download This Version" option? This will download a specific version of the asset rather than the newest.
