Tainz Railroad Simulator 2026

They are pushing very hard to get the imposter system complete and TLR to a level acceptable for release as well. I'm not so sure of HD Terrain. It seems to still have some major issues that need to be worked out. Right now file size is gigantic, often a small route is too large to make a cdp.

Surely TLR and imposter system are still in development? Plus N3V have made it clear that the retail version will not have all the features that the 'equivalent' Trainz+ even at release.

Perhaps with TLR you are correct as it is listed as the first beta of phase 3 but the Imposter system is listed as a full system. It is an improvement to performance and given the perceived lack of performance in TRS22 SP6 HF1, they might want to make that a big selling point.

My view of Trainz Plus has changed. We rarely get a "stable" version of it any more, perhaps once a year now. Certainly not every three months as promised. I think Trainz Plus has become simply paying to beta test a version that is in a perpetual state of development which means bugs and WIP new features.

When TRS22 was released it was basically TRS19 PE SP5 with a very limited version of MPS and a bunch of new content builtin to the game. Surveyor 2 was added to TRS22 PE as a major selling point thus adding a Trainz Plus only feature. So perhaps TRS26 will be TRS22 PE with a fully functional MPS and another 5 DLC routes packages.

Remember we have had the release of TRS22 Model Railroader Edition on Steam and the X Box version on the X Box store. Maybe we don't get a TRS26 or TRS27 at all.

What exactly is this imposter system anyway?
Trees and other scenery objects are decimated and distilled down to simple images requiring very little processing compared to actual meshes. The system works but has issues right now with lots of stutters and poor performance when there are a lot of objects and trees, although the performance is a bit better in this beta version compared to the previous one.

When Plus owners became beta testers, I said that the Plus product was nothing more than a test version of TRS22 to test upcoming versions and all newest features similar to how was with the old Trainz Dev testing group.

Tony corrected me and said that Plus is a full-working version of TRS22 with other additions to it. I still think it's a testing platform.

If you don't want to test new features, you can avoid the Beta patch stream.

I personally do not like the imposter system. When ride a train I like to zoom out and look at distant objects. With the imposter system the distant objects look terrible.

That's right, but lately Plus in general has become the beta with so many unfinished "features".

I agree, the imposter system makes distant objects look awful. I had buildings draw in partially before other objects drew in very slowly.

What I don't like about it is once objects are loaded in the scene they don't remain loaded. Swinging the camera around in the same direction causes everything to redraw again. I'm not sure if this is a function of the beta or how it's going to be going forward. If this is the former, I can live with it but if it's the latter, I'll look for another rail simulator.

I am less than impressed by the PF vegetation, unless it works better in a new version I see no visual improvement, in fact most of the assets look worse.... triangle counts are higher for some of them than existing assets I'm using .
