Sympathy or Shock?

Not if you are the gent getting it, lol.

It isn't direct triple time - it works out to triple time. I would get paid normal rate for a holiday and if I worked it I got double time on top of that. Hence triple time for those hours.

When I was working overtime was paid
Mon-Sat
Time and a half for the first 4hrs then double for the rest of the shift.
Sunday
Double time
Public Holidays
Triple time
And if you didn't get a break between shifts double meal allowances as well.

Dave

Oddly enough, just this morning when I chatted with my boss after a week's vacation, he told me to be careful. He said it has come down from on high that we could no longer work overtime on a holiday, because it would be triple time. Perhaps this is something new...

I had posted to explain the background to the situation..... obviously somebody didn't like it.

I won't bother again, I suspect it'll only get deleted once more.

Mike.

I think that union has a damn cheek with that demand. Historically I believe there was a time when trains actually ran on Christmas day itself! Anyway, seems greedy to me. The boss of the RMT is so extreme he would have had a lovely time in St Petersburg in February 1917.

I thought double time on holidays was customary, triple time seems just...greedy?
Greedy, maybe but that's the basis of capitalism. Trying to get as much money as possible for the minimum amount of service necessary.

It's odd isn't it? 'Workers' who try to maximise their earnings are labelled as greedy. 'Management' who try to mazximise their earnings are just trying to gain the correct recognition for their contribution to a business.

It's interesting to see the age-old remark from the bosses about "holding the country to ransom".
I worked for LUL until August 2000 and at that time I think a Zone 1 fare was £1.60 - not cheap, but affordable if you were going from say Victoria to Kings Cross.
The current Zone 1 fare is £4.00 - I would say this a "ransom demand"? If you wanted to travel from Lancaster Gate to Tottenham Court Road the trip would last about 4 minutes at a pound a minute!
