Can't Drive or Uncouple

Hi I'm probably not understanding Trainz 2022PE on Steam properly. I don't quite have the Trainz mental model straight yet LOL. (and I did search the forum)

I think my questions is: Why can't I drive my train? I think I'm in a "sandbox" free roam session, I wouldn't expect passenger loading to be a factor, but it seems to be. Also why can't I uncouple?

I probably could benefit from watching or reading a tutorial so if someone could point me to one, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I downloaded the Virginia & Truckee route and the IE James loco and tender. I was able to place them on the tracks, couple up to some coaches and move forward.

Then I got stuck where I couldn't control the train until I uncoupled. Per the video I would ctrl-right click the loco, choose Drive, and the three dots would appear in the lower right hand corner.

I'm used to being able to click one of those dots and get the simple controls I'm looking for.

I coupled back up and now I can't even uncouple again or drive the train.

When I opened the route there were no sessions, I chose "Create Session" fwiw.

LATER: So I closed out Driver and reopened it, this time I Ctrl-Right clicked and chose Drive and instead of showing the partial display in the lower right, the locomotive made a few chuffs, moved a few feet and stopped with the controls showing.

Then, I saw this behavior I've been seeing at times, I can't uncouple. It's toward the end of this video:

So I'm confused, is my train waiting to load passengers or something?

(btw I really appreciate those who take the time to answer these inane questions, thanks)

a little more info:

(also if I can edit my previous post please let me know I don't see it maybe it's because I'm a newb, seems like others edit their posts with updates).

I did look at the station, it's configured as an industry, I see various parameters set, i.e. passengers, baggage. So I guess I'm stuck at the station because of the passengers?

But I try ctrl-right-clicking the locos and the coaches and choosing Load but nothing happens.

Thanks.

It sounds to me like the station has taken control of the train. With Trainz, an interactive industry can be an actual industry or some other interactive model such as a warehouse, coalmine, station, and so on.

When you pull into a station or some other interactive industry, the script will take control so that the industry can take care of whatever it has to do.

The problem you've run into is every time the train moves due to being coupled or uncoupled, the station script takes over and the train can't be driven, coupled or uncoupled. If you wait a few seconds in between this process, you may be able to do what you intend to do. The same thing will occur if you drive too slow through one of these interactive industries. There are many times when I've gotten stuck due to slowing down because of a signal ahead and had to wait for the load/unload process to complete.

This, as you've found out, is very frustrating!

To test this, set up another consist and locomotive out on the mainline away from any stations or industries and try the process again. You should be able to couple and uncouple without any problem.

Anyway, having said that it doesn't matter whether this is the Steam version or the direct-purchase version from N3V. This has been with us since interactive industries came out in TRS2004 SP2 in early 2004. Auran released TRS2004 in December 2003 just after Christmas and then released the service pack shortly afterwards. I purchased TRS2004 when it was released from CompUSA on December 28th and I haven't looked at anything else since.

Do you have a driver in the train? Even if you drive yourself a driver is needed.

Edit should be in the bottom left of your post.

I'll keep messing with this, I do have a driver in the train.

It must be because I'm a newb, I don't see an Edit button.

@JCitron CompUSA wow, yeah I go back to the Sunnyvale Fry's myself in the old days. Apparently CompUSA was bought by TigerDirect, who I loved, but they also went OOB last year.
and by the way congrats I notice you're the top poster on the forum by a longshot. I'm sure everyone appreciates the help over the years!

Tiger Direct had "issues" with product shipping and customer service. CompUSA was local to me and really nice to shop in. For software, I used to go to Egghead but they got bought up and disappeared. There were two locations I went to. The original store that was attached to Staples in Woburn and the other in Liberty Square in Boston, located around the corner from where I worked. Frys never made it back east here.

I currently have top posting because I have nothing else to do in my retirement. ;-)

I'll tell you a great issue they had, one day about a year and a half ago, I happened to look up this MSI Pulse GL76 12th gen laptop, 17" screen, Nvidia 3060 Laptop video. It normally went for $1600+.

I had to do a double and triple take, they had the laptop new listed for $799.

I didn't have to think about this very long even though I really couldn't afford it at the time. I ordered it.

Then a couple hours later their site went down for "maintenance." When it came back up my laptop was over $1600 again.

I checked the TOS and they had the right to cancel the order. I waited for them to do that, but my beautiful laptop arrived.

And it runs Trainz very well.

Now they are out of business 🤷‍♂️

@JCitron or anyone, I'll just throw this in here since it's not really worthy of a new post.

Unrelated, on the Signature CoC, what if I work for a railroad and have permission from the President/owner to use the logo? (I maintain their website among other things in the digital domain)

Like this:

You can see the image is served off the virginiatruckee.com domain.

I assume it's still a no, since it might encourage others to violate copyrights, which seems to be the motivation behind the restriction on uploading logos.

Thanks.
