Switching engines in a session,

Is it possible to change from one engine to another in a session by editing the session, deleting the existing engine, replacing it with a new one and saving the session? I tried it once with one of the tutorials, and when I brought up the session I saved ( I gave it a different name), all I got was a blank screen.

You need to be running trainz as administrator, r/click on the desktop launcher and select it.
You seem to have done everything else right.

With TS12 you need to add the new engine, then open the session rules (top left in the menu bar) and select Driver Setup. The first driver at the top is always the default player engine, so select the first driver, click on the name of the engine he's assigned to. That brings up a menu where you can select the new engine you added.

The blank screen was not in fact blank. The session had a driver allocated to the original train which will not get deleted when you delete the engine. This means that the session is looking to place the driver in that engine so sits in space because it cant be found. All you needed to do was open the edit session select the driver and give him the new engine to drive.
