In Surveyor 2.0 you can assign names to objects (e.g. visible text on station sign boards or just simply a name that you can search for with the Finder 
Ctrl+F tool) using the 
Info Palette.
Select the object then open the 
Info Palette (if it is not already open on the screen). Type the name you want to assign to the object in the 
Name: text box.
If the box is greyed out then the layer containing the object is locked. In which case unlock the layer in the 
Layers Palette, reselect the object and try again.

Some objects (but not all) will have an 
Edit Details option in their context menu. This may contain a Name text box but its operation may, or may not, set a displayable or searchable name for that object.
