Substituting rolling stock in a session

Is it possible to replace the old-style Mk1 coaches in a session with the S&C ones now that they're available as freeware, without going into the session itself and directly deleting and replacing each thing? Like, can you tell Trainz that wherever it finds <kuid:30992:10015> should be, it should just replace it with <kuid2:35412:10064:42>?

Unfortunately there isn't a way to do that. You need to associate the rolling stock with the session in some fashion including placing the stock in specific locations to begin with. It would be nice though to do a wholesale replacement outside of the session, but that's impossible as well probably due to the association of consists with drivers and everything else that goes along with that.
