Street trackage

I'm one month new to Trainz. I bought TRS2006 and I thought I would start with something simple. I'm trying to replicate a team track facility in which most of the track is buried in asphalt. Imagine a flat switching area with asphalt built up between, and around, the rails for truck access.

I haven't found anything on the forums that deals with this, I haven't found a suitable track spline that simulates track meant for street running, and I haven't had any success raising the ground or lowering the track without having sections between the rails 'un-asphalted', if there is such a word.

Any suggestions or tips to create street trackage?

Thanks in advance,

Hank

Track

I'm sure there are many road/rail splines, including cobblestone. But as an alternative: Using the (hold "shift" key) as you apply tracks right next to other items, (including other road splines & tracks). Raise the railhead just a hair higher than the street and slide it overtop of the item or track. You can sink a track partway into the dirt or asphalt texture too. Works great in tunnels and on bridges too ! My 4 tracked Rockvile Bridge tracks are well over 1 meter higher (floating) than the roadbed of this 2 track bridge spline:

The Zinc railing is also floating, and is slid into place. Invisble track is the trick used to show the derailment. (Don't tell no one, itz a secret)

This Track has rail only and works OK for 'embedded' track. On close inspection it sits up a bit high but could be sunk a bit to look better. There are track-only tram tracks which might be better...

Your diagram shows the track in the driving lanes, is this on purpose or is it movable to the lanes? Mine are splitting the lanes as a real trolley or track across the road would be and are part of the road, so everything stays aligned where ever they go; exept through the intersections which do use rails-only to connect the straights and make switches.

you could use a concrete spline to raise the ground and leave the tracks at ground height, and the top of the rail would be visible. the splines are on the dls.

i include a thumbnail to a photo which shows what i am talking about.

Not my pic - the track is a completely separate asset from the roads, put it anywhere...

Just look for rail only there are a lot on the DLS. Place in the normal way and adjust the rail spline height to get the desired look.

Over-lapping Traffic

IC, so the traffiic for the tracks only track and the traffic of the roads are seperate entitys and do not see each other, so how do you propose to control them from over-lapping one another? This I think would be a hands-on task that would have to be continious monitored if they are not part of the same spline, right?

First of all, thank you all for helping me with this one. You got to me to start thinking about where this track would be used the most in real life and that guided me to tram and trolley lines. Tram track has the channel included on the inside of the rail head for the wheel flanges to run in.

I found a number of tram track splines that are at baseboard level as they are placed and I can't wait to spend some time working with these to see which of the methods suggested works best.

I'll post a photo someday to show you how it worked out.

I'd recommend tram tracks by either Andi06 or solagon... Both require lowering to ground level, but the results are worth it. Solagon's track includes a rusty version.

Street Tracks cross-section view

Just thought I would give you a closer view of how I set rails and street at same height. each set of tracks and each lane connect to the next section at same points so is like any other spline, exept has both street and rails. comes in 2Ft, 3Ft, and 4ft widths for trolley buses, trolley cars, and standard rollingstock, (convert to metric if you prefer).
