Rail Guns

There were quite alot of different types of rail guns (coastal defence) (German, British, US) from WWI on, and that one I believe was truely mounted to the twin flatcars (and photoshopped to look like star wars) and had a barrel equal to the size of the USS New Jersy that absolutely pounded the Lebanon coast years ago. In the US Civil war there was a real fat rail cannon that shot cannon balls.

On DLS is a M1 Abrams tank that actually fires multiple times, repetitively on it's own (quite anoying)...I would like to see this animation and sound done to a rail cannon in Trainz, that fires when you hit the "Horn" button.

There is quite alot of millitary stuff...Civil War and on... people, flags, artilliary, ships, and locos on DLS that one could re-enact an actual battle in history.

Any Guesses as to what this Thing is? Or what It's Wheel arrangement is? :hehe:

And look at THIS Poor Engine! It's the Holman Horror!
holman1.jpg

 I Be this 4-4-0 Feels pretty Stupid. It's actually a 6-12-0.

...

And who can't be HORRIFIED at this!
cramp.jpg

It's the Camden & Amboy's Short Lived Crampton 6-2-0!

...

If anybody else asks, I know of plenty other Strange Steam Locos... :D

...But Wait! I Have More! :D

belg1s.jpg

Any Ideas as to what the Heck this thing is?

More Locos with Strange Chimneys/Smokestacks/Funnels!

Some Belgian 0-6-0... With a Square Funnel. XD

tallch2.jpg

Not Much Unusual Here... Except for the Unusually Tall Funnel, but Look behind the Loco: Double Deck Coaches! :p

trevithick%201a.jpg

Yeah... That's an Egyptian 0-6-0. Quite the Strange Apparatus on top! :hehe:

And Finally:
trevithick%203a.jpg

Another Strange Egyptian Loco, being a 2-4-0 with a Diagonal Funnel. Up at the Front, there's actually 6 Feedwater Heaters, and to see that, Here's the Front View of the Same Loco:
trevithick%202a.jpg

Quite Unusual Steam Locomotives indeed! ;)

Wow! What's going on with the 4-4-0 mounted atop all of those little wheels? It looked at first as just some transport dolly, but it would not need to be that complicated. Also, the cow catcher is modified to compensate for the extra height of the loco. I can't figure it out. Then I was thinking it was an attempt to create geared loco or Shay type performance, but if I'm not mistaken, the smaller wheels driven by the large drivers would create more speed with less torque..... I think. I really hope some one has an answer for this because it's going to drive me nuts.

Well, that 4-4-0 is called "The Holman Horror", and was a MAJORLY Misguided Attempt at... Well, Prolly exactly what you Said. I'm not Completely sure what the Builders meant to Accomplish with those Engines...

There's still more!

Check out this Unsuccessful NARROW GAUGE CAB-FORWARD 4-4-0!

This Rarity was Built from the Remains of a Wrecked 4-4-0, and to be Honest, I was a Poor Design. The North Pacific Coast Railway was not happy with her, and She Vanished Long Ago...

SCHEMATIC DRAWING!

Haha. Having done some research in this unique locomotive, I can answer that question

The original Holman locomotive was nothing more then a Baldwin 4-4-0 mounted on rollers, turning the 4-4-0 into a 6-12-0. The idea was to take the locomotive, run it back and forth on a straight section of track for investors, sell stock in the company with the "Promise" of making more locomotives, and run off with the profits of the stock. This was in 1887. They actually got away with it too. It was nothing more then a scam to sell stock and run away with the money

Amazingly, the investors seem to have short memories. In 1897, Holman had a second locomotive built by Baldwin This time, rather then mounting the whole locomotives on rollers (mounting the pilot truck on wheels makes no sense what so ever) the front truck was made up of drive wheels without crank pins

Again, sell stock, and run away with the money

For more information (which is not much more then I typed here) got to:

Its my opinion that you would have to be utterly stupid to invest in this. Why reinvent the wheel by putting it on top of another wheel??? Pointless, and any person with an engineering background can see it.

Coming soon to Trainz......

Again, let me explain. NPC 21 was built from the basic frame of NPC 5, which was rolled over in a wreck. Being in California, the railroad took a Maritime boiler (off a ship) that was specially build, mounted it backwards, and building a cab in the front. Creating the First cab forward. The problem was that the burners (that shoot and burn the oil) were put too close to the water tubes (this was a water tube boiler) causing them to blister and burst. since the locmotive was already wrecked once, it had poor tractive effort, and a bad tendency to have wheel slip (caused by the lighter weight of the locomotive compared to a conventional 4-4-0 with a firetube boiler) so rather then spend money in expansive boiler repairs and redeisgn, the locomotive was scrapped in 1905 or so, after less then 5 years of service.

Mein GOTT you're a Genius! I never even Knew it was a Scam!

Shows what I DON'T Know Sometimes... Now, the Question is, can you explain any of the Other Locomotives I showed pictures of?

Great Fun

It's threads like this that make comin here worth while! Love your idea! :D

Heres a good one. No joke and apperantly I worked too!
Gives me an idea to build something like this for trainz, just for fun.:o

Even if that little cab-foward was a disaster in the real world, I want it for Trainz. I can't wait to see it. Very cool.

GARGH! You Sir, are Ingenious! And SWEET! That Sketchup Model of her Looks good! ;)

Can't wait to see that Poor Beauty running in Trainz! :D

I have a Feeling More People are Smarter than me than I originally thought... XD

Sad thing is that I can explain the reasoning of everything you posted.

http://www.dself.dsl.pipex.com/MUSEUM/LOCOLOCO/aigle/aigle1a.jpg

That was the French attempt to get speed in the early days. However, since there was little weight on the massive wheels, they didn't do much.

http://www.dself.dsl.pipex.com/MUSEUM/LOCOLOCO/chimney/cramp.jpg

Same as above

http://www.dself.dsl.pipex.com/MUSEUM/LOCOLOCO/belgian/belg1s.jpg

That I believe is a Water tube boiler. Verse the usual Firetube boiler.

http://www.dself.dsl.pipex.com/MUSEUM/LOCOLOCO/belgian/syss809.jpg

I posted that locomotive a few weeks ago. The extra set of wheels was added to keep the weight per axle down.

http://www.dself.dsl.pipex.com/MUSEUM/LOCOLOCO/chimney/trevithick 1a.jpg

That looks like a extension to the stack to vent the fumes behind cab. It may also have scrubbers in the vents.

http://www.dself.dsl.pipex.com/MUSEUM/LOCOLOCO/chimney/tallch2.jpg

taller stack is to keep the smoke out of the double deck cars. The cars are to make the most out of the given space.
