But the short answer is yes, just switch to the track flyout menu and hit the road or other non-rail spline with the straighten tool. In the "final" version of TS12 61388 and TANE there is a straighten tool built into the object splie flyout as well as the rail one so you don't need to switch.
Edit: Didn't notice at first but if you expect to get much help on here you also need to register your copy as pirates get short shrift.
