Before I fade into the sunset I wanted at least let you know that you were the one bright spot in my connection with Trainz. For that I am very grateful to you. My last attempt to reply was not one of those I tried to send you but from
another member who confirmed my suspicion that Trainz was not what I had hoped for. I’m going to include below part of my reply using your suggestion of “cut and paste.” If you read the next section you will get some idea of what I was trying for.
I started operations on my layout in 1968 and continued up until about a year ago. I’m proud to say I had a number of fellow model railroaders from around the country come down for a weekend to operate with my local crew. This was what made model railroading so great and an interesting hobby that was a challenge. I still have pictures of the layout and a video of operations at
www.eisanfamily.com/sou.htm.
Back in the 60’s and 70’s railroads operated quite differently than they do today. Way freights played a major part in there operation at least in many divisions. Trains consisted of many of the different types of cars and from hundreds of railroad names. The train crew had their hands full trying to switch the industries of a town and get out of the way of a passenger train or a fast freight. Cars would remain on sidings to be loaded or unloaded for a day or more until another train came through to pickup the cars.
Way freights do not lend themselves to Trainz. If you always used (resume session) in the driver you could get by. But how can you maintain or improve your layout “route” using Surveyor? Unless a single map (route) can be treated as a backup to all car & loco movement as well as track and objects that are added you can never be sure of where you stand.
