Hello Rob.
I won’t be there, but thank you for an interesting link.
The 6880 Society looks like a well organised outfit. We should wish them well with their endeavours. It would be great to see a Grange Class loco again, even if it isn’t an original brought back to life. What a shame that they were all scrapped. I used to see a few of them in my schooldays.
I reckon I took this photo of a Grange in around 1959, west of Salisbury, where SR and GWR had parallel twin tracks until they diverged at Wilton. This is on the GWR section of line which has now been replaced by housing. The SR line is still in use to this day.
I can’t see the number of the loco in detail. The picture was taken with my first proper camera, a simple Kodak 44A, (having “progressed” up from my grandfather’s old box Brownie), so it’s not very clear.
My best guess from what I can see on my original full size image is that it is 6830.That would identify it as Buckenhill Grange, which was scrapped at Cohen’s, Kingsbury in 1965.
Thanks for stirring up some happy memories.
Hope you enjoy the day out, together with anyone else from the Forum who might be able to get to the event.
Cheers
Casper
