Steam

I just got hold of Trainz 12 at great expense because I wanted to drive a STEAM train i.e. one powered by coal not one of those diesel things.

The trouble is that being quite new to Trainz I haven't a clue where to find the darn things. I would prefer to drive a British steam locomotive up the East coast of the UK to Aberdeen via Edinburgh - something like Mallard or the Sir Nigel Gresley.

Would some kind soul be kind enough to tell me how to attach something like that to my train? I fear that I am old and retired and more used to playing with my own layout of ancient engines which has 200 meters of track. I find this all rather confusing.

Not having 12 yet, I can't speak to the UK steam engines included in game, however, if you open a route for edit, you will find fly out menus on the right hand side that will allow you to do a number of functions. One of those will contain the locomotives and rail cars available to you. If you scroll down the list until you find a suitable locomotive, you can place it on the track where you click. Then find a tender for the locomotive, and any rail cars you wish to use. You should then be able to drive the consist you have assembled, once the session has been saved.

I also recommend registering your game with Auran, you get more help that way.

C'mon, dear senior trainzer, there's a way if there's a will. ;)

Let's put it on track.

These are the British locos available built-in in TS 12. Not many, I daresay. Rolling stock contents have been reduced noticeably.

The basics:
  • Just open your TS 12, choose a British, Russian, or Chinese or else route, and edit it.
  • Select the loco you want to use from the list of them on the rolling stock tab selector.
  • Click on a section of track and place the loco.
  • Key Ctrl + F2 (Quick Drive) and you'll go into Driver mode, select DDC driving for a start and use the speed dial on your lower right part of the screen.
This is the basic way.

If you want another British model to run on your tracks, that's another story and it's related to download it from the DLS.

First things first. Try this first chapter.

Hope it helps. And I see the rest of my helping hand friends are on your track too. Well-done, Ed and Ron.

I hope Smileyman notices that Ron has had his coffee this morning. Today I'm the cranky one because I've just finished filing my TAXES. Now, to figure out a way to finish PAYING those taxes!:hehe:

I'm guessing if US prisons -having jurisdiction on Oompa Loompa Land- have Trainz gaming rooms! :hehe:

I did find that list but did not recognise any of the models as Steam powered. Be nice if they were a different colour or something. Only thing I could find in the Railyard was a coach!

Thank you all for your help.

I'm fairly certain if you registered your game, you could download buckets of UK steam locomotives and tenders from the DLS.

Those are all non steam

You will need to look for A3 and A4

Remember to switch off your favourotes button (yellow at top) to see all the locos

I think there are 4 steamers in there, if you want more click on my website and select BR GWR LNER LMS or SR, you will find hundreds

There are many of us fellow Trainzers old and retired, so you are with a large group !!!

Hi Paul,

;) Have you already tested TS 12?

Please don't confuse TS 2010 contents with the built-in one reduced in T12 on purpose according to N3VRF41L officials.

I do know these aren't steamers. ;) And that's the only British loco built-in content in TS 12. British steamer lovers must look for their loving assets at other sources, like yours. ;) Hope they work in TS 12. If not, maybe some easy fixing will do.

BTW, the list is taken from the infallible CM3.5, not from the in-game listing. ;)

Another BTW, cleverly this time the TS12 developers have included a warning text to recall absent-minded 12ers to toggle off favourites. :hehe: In previous versions, some trainzers thought that contents have been stolen while installing the game due to the fact that favourite option was default after the first start-up of Trainz (T10, for instance) and very few contents was shown and listed. ;)

Lest nobody could be misguided (Please, bear in mind that T10 is not T12), here you are:

hi Alberte

Yes I have tested TS12

Yes all my content is fine for TS12 (all imported OK and running)

The A3 and A4 you will have to get from the DLS (like many other things)

;) OK, Paul now your message is clearer, since there are no British built-in steamers in TS 12, as our senior OP wanted to know. ;)

Of course, we all know that there are many other sources to enrich our trainzy rolling stock collection. Fortunately trainzers are wealthy... in freeware creators.

Thank you for your link. Some super models there. I remember most of the LMS ones from my train spotting days in the 40's. Will they work OK with 12?

They are all good and running in TS12

When you order them remember to specify the Trainz Versions, as they are different for each version

Hate to say this but you'd have been better off buying TS2010 :(
As you are interested in British Steam there's quite a few built-in into '10 including Mallard, Flying Scotsman, Britannia class, Black Prince 9f and Stanier 8F 2-8-0, as well as part of East Coast Main Line, from King's Cross as far as York which if I remember correctly has been extended in Trainz 12.
Suggest you register your copy with Auran and also activate the First Class Ticket which I believe is included or at least a 30 day version & get busy downloading.
There is a good pack of MK1 'Blood & Custard' coaches on the Trainz Settle & Carlisle site http://www.settleandcarlisle.co.uk/index.html on downloads page, extra coaches which you can download straight away.

After several hours I have now got 2010 running. I use the term 'running' loosely because every button I press takes an age to do anything. I have what I consider to be a very fast and capable computer but this game seems to be written in a language that it barely understands.

In addition I have a constant battle with my Firewall (Eset) because the game appears to be in constant touch with elsewhere. Maybe this is what is holding it up? The whole encilada seems devoted to protecting itself at the expense of the user.

Sorry about this rave but I thought that I had kept ahead of waiting for things to happen over the last ten years.

Hi again,

Try this....

In Driver.... load any route....let it load.

Then go to "options".....select "Global Interface".

You should see a GREEN check mark for Trainz Chat.

Click the GREEN check mark....and it should go off.

That should stop the game from trying to find anyone who wants to chat.

Hope that works....let us know.

Regards,
