Steam Compounding Question

There was a steam reservoir, all the pipe from the back cylinders to the front, 10-20ft.

There were also a few examples (Mallet) built with steam reheaters between the rear and front engines, in the boiler barrel, right before the actual boiler itself. Needless to say, the experimentation did not appear fruitful.

I would say it didn't. I had never heard about that before!

I see. I mainly developed the idea to hopefully save on fuel costs, but from what you've said it wouldn't really pay off. I guess I'll have to do more research.
