Spline circles?

Hi All,

I have just got back into some tracklaying in 2009 V40040 and find that in surveyor the spline circles dissapear unless you are in the track tab and have the rail icon selected. I can't remeber this happening before but could someone tell me if this is a feature of 40040 or have I clicked on something that makes it happen? It does not happen in V40704 beta, the spline circles are visible at all times while in surveryor.

Cheers,

spline circles

Hi Bill - I am up to 40040 and my spline circles are there all the time. A week or so ago I remember someone asking about turning them off and I believe there was something you could click on to more or less get the effect you describe. A recent post anyway but I cannot find it now for looking.

Strangely, I find the opposite. In 40704 the circles are visible in 'track' only but in 40040 they are there all the time. I prefer the limited visibility. I have a vague memory that early versions had the disappearing circles.

Hi,

Thanks for the replys Doug And Peter. At least that tells me they are switchable so I will just wait to see if anyone knows how.

During my brief dabbling in TS2009, both 38017 and 40040, I've noticed the spline circles are no longer visible at points when you go into track object mode to replace the lever - in fact I'm almost certain that TS2009 doesn't even place the default lever though I might be wrong on that.

Hi Vern,

That's my problem exactly. When I go to replace or reposition a lever I can't see the spline points so have to try two or three times to get it in the right position.

Hi Bill
Please try pressing 'ALT+O' on your keyboard. This should turn off the contextual information. You can also turn this setting off (which will turn spline circles to always on) in the Surveyor options, accessed via 'main menu' and then 'options'.

Hi Zec,

That fixed it thankyou very much. I can now see where I am placing the levers. I could not find how to switch the spline points on by myself.

Cheers,
Bill

Yes, thank you, I too wanted to have the circles all the time.
In surveyor Main menu->Options->Surveyor Settings select the "Detailed" setting on the line Spline Editing Detail.

The Spline Editing setting is not intended to change the visibility of the spline circles. I asked on the Trainzdev forum, here is the answer,

It's not related to spline circles.

"Simple" means that a white line is shown in place of any spline that you are actively editing. This is best for performance.

"Track only" means that track is properly rendered during editing operations, but more complex items such as bridges or tunnels are shown as white lines. This is a reasonable performance compromise.

"Detailed" means that all spline types are fully rendered during editing rather than displaying surrogates. This is worst for performance.

Peter

Wrong part Pete. This is the contextual information, not the spline editing (which isn't in 09 IIRC).

Zec

Hummm...anyways I selected each of the options and "Detailed" works for me to display the spline circles always on any of the tool options. For example, I don't use the default switch lever so to change it I have to guess where the spline was and then move it little by little until the right position, a real pain. I am happy to discover how to have them all the time, performance? let the cpu takes care of that.

I was referring to this below

In surveyor Main menu->Options->Surveyor Settings select the "Detailed" setting on the line Spline Editing Detail.
This thread started as a 2009 question. I asked on Trainzdev and quoted Chris' answer.

What are you referring to? Is it Contextual Information? In the the current dev build this seems to work in reverse. Tick the box and the circles disappear, untick it and thay come back.

iirc 'show contextual information' is also counter-intuative - 'On' shows nothing, 'off' shows the circle thingys...

You are correct Peter - the tick box is working "back to front" - very confusing.....

The simplest fix for the development team might just be to change the wording associated with the tickbox.

I'm going to have to eat my words. Show contextual information is working correctly.

No Tick - Circles show up at all times when not required ie NOT in context

Tick - Circles show up only when required ie Only in Context

It does seem to be reversed but not when you consider what the programmer meant.

Spit 'em out Peter, I think you were right first time. Certainly the wording is unclear (at best).

Another case of an unclear message is when changing a board from 10m to 5m grid. A message appears which says "... this cannot be undone" which had me thinking for a long while that the whole change was irreversible this is not the case - the message actually means that you cannot use the "Undo" function on the change.

These are only minor points but they do cause some confusion and the wording can be changed easily enough.

Sorry for wandering off topic.
