Speed of AI trains

Is there any way to control the speed of AI trains? In my limited experience, they seem to travel at the maximum permitted speed for that section of route - perhaps commensurate with the maximum speed of the loco although I've never put this to the test.

In real life, a freight train with European 2-axle wagons wouldn't be allowed to hurtle down the line at 160 km/h even though passenger trains on the same route do.

Thanks in anticipation

Hi Alan

Search for driver command "Set Max Speed To" by NikkiA. There are two of them, one in Kph and the other Mph. These are really useful rules and I have made a lot of use of them to reduce the speed of trains on the uphill sections of the S&C route. It looks ridiculous to see a Britannia climbing up a 1/100 incline at 85 mph with an eight coach train.

There was also a line you could enter into the config of any rolling stock that restricted the train to the speed of that wagon. This would allow the train to be able to use the max speed permitted by any wagon.

max_permitted_speed-60850 "125mph"

Hi, Try the VSB kuid2:61119:22000:1 or 61119:22001:1. Use it with Driver Speed Rule kuid2:69937:20029:1
Have a nice day

Hope you don't mind my asking here as the heading sort is spot on for my question...

In my route I'm creating I have left the speed limits pretty much alone till now, I have gone through and placed all the speed signs that are on the route IRL.. \I have also added a few invisible speed signs but even this does not seem to help my AI travel at the designated speed of the invisible signs but then go back to the default speed of 65k' s not long after.. ??

TS12 here.. please help its driving me nuts

AI wont default to 65 if it has already passed a speed sign. When the front passes a sign it will reduce to that speed or increase when the rear passes a sign. What does effect the speed is junctions and signals mainly. Scripted signals seem slow to react and if more than one train is near a junction this also takes a while for the computer to sort. The signals tend to look at two blocks ahead. Ive also found stations will slow down the train even if the track is clear and you are not stopping. My thought is that scripted items are affecting the speed of the train somehow.

Now that's an interesting thought. After our last bit of correspondence, I decided to watch one of the AI trains very closely on the map. Sure enough, it sped up and slowed down for no apparent reason and this would explain it. I also had the opposite problem to my 2-axle wagon issue in that my tilting train wouldn't go fast enough!!! I didn't mind that too much as I got a good view of the train as it passed and was able to pretend it was accelerating from a PW slow.

I've still alot to learn!!

tilt train OH goodie is it the QR one??

Ok so how can I make a blanket speed for a yard with 60 plus points and signals ...

I need to set all trains in that area to 40 k's or less in places but let work on a blanket area speed zone of 40 in the yard is there a way to do this.. or do I need to put a shyte load of 40k signs in... pref invisible ones are there bi directional one I can use...
