Speed limit problem.

Hi all. I am making my own route and doing some test runs with various loco etc.

For some reason when I run a train using the AI, it never reaches the max speed that is set for the line IE I set the line for 125MPH and the train will only get to 66MPH. (the train is the BR Class 43 HST set).

I am using the UK Cast Speedboards.

Does anyone know why this happens and is there anything I can do to stop it?

Thanks for any help.

Craig.

Hi Craig

This may be a signalling problem but it is difficult to say for sure without more information. If the train is consistently running with yellow signals ahead instead of green, that usually halves the speed.

Brian

I am also observing this issue on my route with the JR SafeTran signals. All lights are green but for some reason the AI drives at 22mph in a 45mph speed limit.

Another thing to consider is what the maximum speed is for a given locomotive. If you have a speed sign of 125 mph, but the fastest the locomotive is set for is, say, 75 mph, it will never reach beyond 75. Max speed can be found in the config file and I would presume be changed, though I've never tried it.

Thanks for the replies so far guys.

Brian. No signals on my route so far, as I don't know how to install them correctly. (apart from the Matlin Hump Yard which I downloaded & merged with my route, but is NOT connected to the main route).

NJ. The class 125 HST has a max in game speed of 134 MPH, so it's nothing to do with the locos top speed.

I am using the UK Cast Speedboards.

These speedboards don't have any effect on the train speed. It will run at the maximum for the loco, or the default maximum for the line (which is 65kph).

Try a different speedboard

Edit/ The above statement is not correct in general. It is correct in some specific cases. The problem is not related to that specific speedboard, but I cannot replicate the issue reliably. It appears to be associated with the default session in driver, but it might also be another manifestation of the SP1 layers issue. OP's problem is probably different. /Edit

Hi Craig,

Signals will affect the speed and no signals will cause the AI drivers to operate at half speed or usually 23 mph.

You'll find too that a junction facing the wrong way will force the AI to drive slowly until the reach the junction. At that point, they will change the junction and continue on their way.

Placing signals is not as difficult as you think. There are some great tutorials out there for track laying and signal placing by Chuck Brite.

Thanks for the replies. I shall now go and try putting in some signals.

If you hear a loud crashing sound coming from the UK, you'll know I failed. :hehe:
