SP4: Missing required assets

This is with a fresh install of Trainz 19 SP4. Whenever I try to open the game, I get hit with an error stating "Unable to load required assets. Forcing database repair."

Just to be transparent, the database repair isn't fixing whatever the problem is. I'm letting it run completely each time, but the same warning pops up when trying to load up the game and the procedure starts again with no effect, and I'm left stuck in a loop with no results.

Just a possibility. Have you changed the location of your user data folder? Found in Launcher --> Trainz Settings --- Install tab --> Local Data Folder.

It is possible that TRS19 is attempting to access this folder but cannot find it?

As I said - just a possibility, or clutching at straws.

There is not enough space on my C: drive, so I have Trainz installed on one of my other ones with larger storage space.

It wasn't an issue before, the game ran fine. It's only now that I am facing this issue after I had to reinstall because it refused to download the new updates.

You have the program installed on another larger drive but what about the data folder? Is it still pointing to the C: drive? The data folder will take more space than the program does.

The only thing for Trainz I can find on the C: drive is in the AppData folder.

Move the Build files to your new hard drive.

Start up TRS19.

At the Launcher, click on Trainz Settings.
Click on Install
Click on the ...
Browse in Explorer to where you placed the Build xxxxx folder(s).
Click on your folder you want, if you have more than one.
Click Select.

The program will run an Updating Translation Tables.

1) If all goes well, you've chosen the correct data folder.

2) You'll have plenty of space on your C: Drive.

I'm not sure that I've done this correctly. There was no sign of an "Updating Translation Tables" occuring and the same error is throwing itself up.

The AppData folder on your C: Drive is where Trainz will normally store the user data folder. As I mentioned, its User Data folder takes up more space than the program folder.

To confirm this:-

Either

  • Open the C:/users/"your name"/AppData/Local/N3V Games/trs19 folder and you should see a folder with a strange name made of "build " followed by largely random letters and numbers. This is your User Data Folder. OR
  • Start Trainz Launcher, select Trainz Settings then the Install tab. The user data folder will be identified in the dialogue window near the top.

If it is Drive C: then you would be well advised to move it to another larger drive.

The same Install tab has a button labelled "Instructions for moving your content". Click this and a browser window will open up detailing the move instructions. After the move you can delete the C:/users/"your name"/AppData/Local/N3V Games/trs19/build xxxxxxx folder.

Pware, Do you need to move the whole C:/users/"your name"/AppData/Local/N3V Games/trs19/build xxxxxxx or just the files in that folder please ? and I presume the same for trainz 22 ? and then can you delete the whole C:/users/"your name"/AppData/Local/N3V Games/trs19/build xxxxxxx once copied across to the other drive folder? Thanks I find this whole thing rather confusing being an old un !

No, just move the Build xxxxx folder elsewhere. You can even name it something else. I put mine on my E: Drive for TRS19 and call it TRS19_DATA so I know what it is.

This is exactly the same for TRS22. Outside of Surveyor, everything else has been the same so far. In my setup, I put my TRS22 beta data folder on my F: drive under TRS22_TEST DATA.

FYI. Moving the App data folder can cause messy things to happen with Windows because it's a system-created folder structure.

Yes, it does that by default. The only part it installs where you direct is the executables. You can move it after install but you need to follow the instructions under Launcher-TrainzSettings-Install Tab-Instructions for moving your content
